FYI about the Legbars I will have this Summer. I will not be using a new line rooster for the new line hens. I'm not sure who has seen the new line roosters but with such big crests, they have floppy combs. I do not like the floppy combs at all and I don't believe the standard calls for floppy combs. BM6 can say more on that. I prefer a straight, tall comb. So, I plan to keep new line hens but will be using a old line rooster with a straight comb. If you claimed new line CCL eggs from me and have an issue with that, PM me please. We'll work something out.

I thought in the US standard, CCL combs where supposed to be upright?

). I would just cull hard any roosters that have floppy combs and soon you should be able to replace him with a better roo with a straight comb. I hate the floppy comb too, but the color and type is so much better on the new line, that I would just live with it for awhile.
I'm making DH eggs but all I have are rhodebars, legbars,Isbars, cuckoo silkies, Russian Orlaff, OD, tolbunt.....

BM6 brought me some leghorn eggs yesterday. I can just use those right, leghorns aren't special, they are just some regular white birds, right?

Really? Emilie De Gray (sp?)'s birds looked nothing like those! Nor do the other 2 breeders who have won the majority of contests the past 3 years! I'm going to have to do some investigating...

Bonnie's bird here is what I'm used to seeing taking the prizes.
He looks great, as far as type, but I miss the "bright splash of chestnut" that Punnett talked about. These birds are too silver, in my opinion, where our birds are too chestnut.
Can someone please clear Madamwlf? ;) Just got the tolbunts, paints and chocolate orps in good shape! Thank you! :D

I finally got my chicks. Only a few are still alive but it's apparent they won't be for long. I'll be surprised if they make it through today.

I'm numb. I've been so excited anticipating getting these CCLs, and now this. All the grogel cups are empty and chicks are strewn about everywhere in the box, in the cups, under the cups, draped over the cups. OMG, what did the PO do to this box.

CJ, I have been a vet tech for awhile. Besides warming them, rub vigorously, rub and pat and just generally VIGOROUSLY stimulate blood flow. Don't give them shaken baby syndrome, but do rub and pat vigorously, while warming.
YES! Ask Rachael, one of my pullets arrived like that last week. One was dead, the other was so close, but I can't tell anymore which one it was.
I also was able to revive a Blue Isbar that arrived that way a while back, but Rachael killed it a few days later!

too bad we couldn't get a bunch of people together and start our own live animal shipping business....the PO is really getting on my nerds.......

My incubator has been delivered......I just don't know to who's house.

Fedex says it was delivered to my front door but ummm....there is no box here. And of course they are taking their sweet time to find it.
Ummm....do you think you will get it back?

My leghorn assortment arrived today! Totally shocked because they were shipped Wednesday and up until this shipment, it has taken everything shipped Priority 4 days to get to me.

The PO called just before 7, and I went and got them. I could hear them peeping as soon as I opened the door to the building. They had them set off to the side with someone's jacket wrapped around the box. The lady went and got them for me said she checked on them first thing, since they've had a few not so good arrivals. Which I thought was totally odd, one - when I let her know on Tuesday that I was expecting chicks at the end of the week she commented that it has been a while since they've received chicks, and 2 - so you opened my package to check on the chicks - what would she have done if they were all DOA? Not called?!? Sent them back?!? warned me on the phone?!?

I ordered 8 "rare" leghorn assorted pullets. They sent the 8, plus 10 barred rock packing peanuts. I was kind of surprised they didn't send any extra pullets - It's February and I ordered an assortment, I would have thought it would be easy to add an extra or two.

Anyway, got them home and there were two who were pretty beat up - so I separated them and added extra heat to them, even got them to drink a bit. They seemed to perk up, and then slid down hill and died.

They sent 5 rose comb leghorns, 1 buff leghorn and 2 red leghorns, now I'm down to 3 rosecombs.

I tried to call Ideal, but it was after hours by the time the babies finally gave up. I guess I'll call tomorrow. Trying to decide if I want them to credit me two chicks, or order more....

The barred rock boys seem like bullies - they seem to be picking on the smaller leghorn chicks, and I'm not sure what to do. I don't have another space I can brood them, separate from the leghorns unless I add them to my 9 2-week olds. I'm temped to do that, but kinda on the fence.

If they are being bullies, add them to the 2 week olds. It should hurt them at all. Sorry about your loss.

I had one do that today. Pipped upside down and was stuck really stuck. I pulled the shell off to try to save it, but it started bleeding and died anyway. But the point of that is that it pipped and and still had lots of blood in the veins. I see that happen all the time.... pip with blood still in all the veins.... even hours later. I have not researched it myself.... just talking from personal hatching experiences. Would be nice if they all absorbed the blood when they pip.

Whoops, they're 3 weeks old. Not two. I think I will put them in with the bigger birds. I don't like them picking on the smaller chicks. These new ones aren't the brightest birds in the coop - I've never had a chick "forget" where the eco-glow was. Once I put them in underneath it, usually they know where to go to get warm, but twice so far I've found a chick shivering and making the distressed peep nowhere near the eco-glow. Silly birds.

I know I know!!!!!!!

You could send them right over here if you want too!!!!!!
