I need some advice. I received my first smashed eggs today. Packing wasn't atrocious but wasn't good. Out of 13, only 5 made it and I am only setting 4 since the fifth is covered in goo. Here are some pics:

This is the message I was going to send her: but wasn't sure if I should bother? Is this something I am going to have to just take as. Loss, or should I send that message? Or if I should get. Refund, what should my message say?

Just pick up the eggs from the PO and its not good news. The box looked ok, until I opened it. Out of 13, I will only be setting 4.
Have you shipped eggs before? How much did you pay for shipping? I use those 7x7x6 boxes too, although I double box, and I usually pay $8.
I took some pictures. Like I said, the box didn't look to beat up, but with the eggs right next to the top, any pressure would have, and did, break them.
I was so looking forward to them I wonder if you will work out a deal with me... Since chances are I might get one, two chicks out of it. I am going to set 4 eggs, and after shipping ($8) I paid $1.30 per egg. So, a total of 13.20. Since the eggs where so damaged, I am hoping you would refund $12 for the eggs that did not make it.
I mean no disrespect or want to cause trouble, but there are much better ways to ship eggs to protect them better. I have received many many dozens of eggs from BYC members and these are the first eggs I have lost more than one or two. I have received boxes that looks really rough outside but the eggs still where intact from superb packing.

Is that the little tiny priority mail box in the pic? and are those LF eggs? I am wondering, if they are LF eggs, why they sent them in that tiny box. Smallest I'd go with LF eggs is the regional rate A box.

It is a 7x7x6 shipping box. Those are Marans eggs.
Honestly I use those boxes, but I double box and I use egg cartons. I can fit a dozen in like cartons cut in half and bubble wrapped.

These eggs where individually bubble wrapped then wrapped in one sheet of large bubble wrAp and put in the box

I don't think your at all wrong for asking for a refund.

I got eggs yesterday that where wrapped then put into a tin. No padding inside the tin, so they were busted when they got here. lol It was a tin o goop. They were swapped eggs though.

Sah.......if I shipped eggs that arrived like that I would expect to have to replace them or refund the money.

I've never had eggs arrive in those conditions, and I've had eggs just wrapped in newsprint, put in egg cartons, stuffed in a single box and arrived just fine. Could they have frozen and split?

Everyone packs and ships a little different. I've had eggs single boxed, double boxed, and triple boxed. I think the lesson I would look at is to try to ship eggs the way I would like to see them arrive to me. I learn from others shipping disasters as much as their successes.

I hope she takes responsibility.
