She died a couple of hours ago.  :hit She was one of my favorites too.... She was just fine one minute and the next she wasn't still not real sure what was wrong. Everyone else seems to be ok. I spent all say trying to make her feel better and help her and I thought when she stood up and was walking around she was gonna pull through, then I went out to check on her again and she was laying on the stall floor dead.  :hit Never had one die on me before or this happen. Are dairy goats more prone to this stuff.  Don't want to have to go through this again. What a rotten day, I bottle fed her from when she was just a day old.  She was gonna be a yr old in August.

I am so sorry

So sorry to hear about your goat! They are curious animals and can get themselves into trouble chewing on things they shouldn't...also heavy worm loads can sneak up on them. It sounds like whatever it was happened so fast there was nothing you could do. Figure out what happened if you can but also get yourself an extensive goat first aide kit cause, pysankigirl is right, livestock vets are hard to find.

I worm them regularly so I don't think it was that. I use the Ivomec Pour on. I just read that Pine can cause poisoning. So I wonder if using pine shavings is a smart idea, Maybe I did it to her without knowing it when I bedded them down in it. I have used it before but lately was using Hay. I couldn't find a vet to help me out, then I found one and I gave her benadryl but that didn't help. I wonder if it was Bloat.

I feel so horrible and am very upset about the whole thing.

I thought I was prepared. I have penacillian, vitamins, Electrolytes, needles, dewormer & odds & end for them. I always keep things like that for my birds also. But I guess in this case I wasn't as prepared as I thought.

You are better prepared than most! Far better! Add in some B complex and a gastric tube and you'll be in better shape. I had to hunt down B complex when a friends goat got goat polio, and I made sure never to be without it. Also, figure out your emergency contacts on Goat911, and post them and the contact times allowed somewhere handy. Many of those people are more knowledgable about goats than most vets. My own vet does primarily equine work, and we have sat with a problem sheep or goat getting the same info from Goat911 people and the small ruminant experts at State on our two phones! You may even want to go ahead and touch base with one of the G911 people, and ask them what else to put in your kit while you're at it.

I'm sorry you lost your little friend. Goats in particular can get to our hearts.

Thanks guys for everything, It always has to be my favorite ones. So was so sweet tempered unlike my Billy goat who just loves to horn me as soon as I walk into his stall.

I really like the Sanneen breed. They are very calm. If I lost my little pygmy girl I would be devastated even worse.

I didn't mean to make it sound like you weren't prepared, please don't feel at fault! I was more stating my frustration at the difficulty in finding help with goats. Worms are the #1 cause of death so that is why I mentioned it but this one sounds like there was nothing more you could do. Sounds like some sort of poisoning to me. Normally they would have to eat a ton of pine for it to be a problem so i doubt that is it. Might have been a strange weed or possibly some other wood like cherry or walnut hidden in the shavings. It is heartbreaking when there is nothing you can do.

I am so sorry to hear it! I would really upset by that.
I think my momma hen will die soon. She is getting really skinny, but seems to be eating. I am going to try to give her FF and hope she puts some weight back on and gets better

No, I didn't think that, I just thought I was prepared but it happens that I wasn't in this case.
