Quote: They need a good lesson in genetics. It sounds like they inbreed too much and when they do outcross to increase genetic diversity, they release the birds far too soon. Perhaps they should sell those birds as project birds or just wait another bloomin year to release them until they are perfected.

I agree. Seems most of the breeds I've gotten lately have something wrong with them. I'm hoping the barnies I jut got are somewhat decent.

And they ship sick birds and don't seem to care!

What I really wish is that GFF would put out what they are doing when it comes to breeding. What they are crossing in and how many pens they have of each breed.

I think the rule changes are good. I am another person who doesn't claim hens choice because I would like the best chances possible to get a pair of a breed. If it were hens choice of just 2 breeds, then I would be more willing to get them since I would have 3+ eggs from each breed to get chicks. Just my opinion.

That would be nice, but then we would get an idea as to the fact that they are breeding thousands of birds from 5 that they imported. When the gene pool is that shallow, any and all genetic defects are going to come to the surface. On top of that, I wonder about their feed rations. A lot of the leg issues, beak issues, etc. could be caused either by inbreeding or by lack of certain nutrients. I'd like to know which it is.

Unfortunately there are some that don't send extras at all so what you get is 3 of each breed.
