Roaches are good, too. I should start a colony of those. And restart mealworms.

I can deal with mealworms, but Roaches give me the willies.

Okay, I'm exhausted, and feel the need to babble. Hubby lit the bonfire pit to burn deadfall at 6:00 am. He couldn't keep it burning, so gave up. No big deal; the pile wasn't that big. It could wait. We both have been doing chores and errands all day. Then he took a nap. At about 1:30, he woke up, glanced out the window and hit the door running. A wind had come up, and apparently there were some coals down in there. He started hauling buckets. I got the muck tub cart, and garden cart and started filling tubs to haul. Reilly has eaten all the hoses we had, but none would have reached anyway.

Fire moved fast. When he saw it, it was less than a couple yards from the fire pit. By the time I got out there with the first tub, it was over maybe a quarter acre and moving. I hauled out the next tub, grabbed all the dogs, and called 911. They got to us quickly, but it was maybe an acre and a half by then, next to the shop, heading for the new chickenhouse and his Harley trailer. Fast. Fire Dept got it out quick, thank goodness.

I have used my energy allotment for today. Hubby certainly has, as he was running buckets while I was moving tubs. He also inhaled a lot of smoke. I have him with a humidifier and hot tea for the steam. He's not in bad shape, but it's miserable to have lovely seared lungs.

Nobody was hurt, human pet or livestock. The fire didn't get to the front yard where all the dried leaves are. It got stopped before it reached any building....well, it was licking the shop, but that's all it got. A pile of lumber to build a lean to on the shop got no more than singed. Some fence will end up having to be replaced.

My husband points out that the dang deadwood in the fire pit still didn't burn!

Oh my gosh! I'm glad everyone's okay. That's terrifying! Although forgive me, I couldn't help but chuckle at the deadfall still not burning... Wouldn't ya know it?!

I wouldn't...but then, I've grown mealworms, and they're easy to dry roast. If I couldn't grow mealworms....hmmmm. Don't know!

I keep meaning to start a mealworm farm -- maybe in the spring. Cheap, easy, and lots of protein -- perfect!

my son freaked he just bought 1000 for $21 today. So I told never buy them again and started him a worm farm.

If you know someone who goes to reptile shows, you can usually get them cheap there. I bought 3k for something like $40.

my uncle piles all his paper burn trash and covers with leaves and piles dead wood on top whenever it starts to rain he lights the fire and burns only on rainy days

I seriously need to set up some worm farms. I had blatta lateralis roaches in the past. Cool critters, but a little fast. May try the non-climbing ones at some point. Maybe next time I hit the reptile swap I'll get me some starters.

The girls would love that!

I would look on CL first. Dubias at reptile shows tend to be expensive.

Madam, saw your post about postage going up. I dont know what I am doing differently from you, but I can send 12 eggs for under $13 Priority, and thats with lots of padding and each egg wrapped ect ect

Do you double box? And it also depends on packing material used. Most of my boxes are over 2 pounds when completely boxed up.
