I am so bummed. My eggs shipped on Saturday brkuk arrived today smashed.
It's ironic. I just received eggs smashed this week. I thought I had packed them extra carefully. Maybe I packed them in with to much bubblewrap. I am bummed. First shipping disaster for me

Wanted to share a real easy brooder I made this weekend (no husbands or tools needed
)
I know we are all hatching like maniacs and running out of brooder space so it may enable help another swapper.
I needed something large to brood 2 goslings in (Thanks Celtic
) and nothing quite fit the bill (pun intended
) Anyway, after searching aimlessly in Home Depot for a few hours I came across these large panels of Plastic corrugated cardboard. They were strong like regular heavy cardboard but made from plastic so I thought what the heck, I can cut them up and make a waterproof box out of them. Worked like a charm! I brought 3 panels ($11.00 each panel) and made a HUGE box using 2 1/2 panels. I cut them to the sizes I wanted and just taped them together with heavy duty packing tape. Working by myself took less than an hour and the only tool I needed was a pair of scissors
I made this on the short side because the goslings don't seem to jump up but for chicks I would have made it taller.
And just for sheer cuteness here they are bathing in a kiddie pool...in my kitchen, lol. I know I have issues
I think the swap page might help. It helps someone who is disorganized, like myself, keep track of who I still need to send stuff to, PROVIDED that I update it as I ship and everything. I've been so screwed up from this moving stuff that even with a page, I'm still a smidge confused, LOL. But, one thing I think is nice about it, is you can look at a glance and see what that person still owes and from when... So you have a better idea of how long you'll be waiting for your eggs (even eggs offered immediately aren't always sent immediately, the hens go off lay, like my turkeys, etc). It's also nice to know that your shipper hasn't forgotten about you.
I can not create a members page from my phone, I have tried. Couple times. Apparently once I get access to a computer with Internet and create a page, I should be able to edit it from my phone. However, I don't have access to a computer with Internet.
I am a little shocked this afternoon. I have 5 Basque chicks left from my hatch a couple of days ago. Someone from BYC is on her way to pick them up from Alabama. I am in Baton Rouge, LA! That's quite a drive for 5 chicks.
My son does indeed have strep, so that pretty much means we all have it... Or at least the baby will get it. Which also means I will be having anxiety attacks for the next week worrying. I just don't handle sickness well. I know its not serious, but it has me crying cuz I get so freaked out.
So i have 36 eggs that were due to hatch on Saturday. I have not candled or pulled any so I am sure some are clears etc. BUT I had 2 SFH hatch on Sat from the same person. There are eggs from 5 different people. And I candled a couple eggs last night and they have very clear veining. I ran it a little cooler then I normal do, right at 99.5, because it is a forced air incubator. Any hope on these? I thought since I can see veining I probably still have a chance of having these hatch.
How do you guys find bulk deals? The feed mill here only does bulk deals for 2 tons at a time, and that's only with delivery... Umm, that's almost an entire year's worth of feed here, and I don't have a place to store that much. I've been buying 400lbs at a go, for $96 and change. I could easily do the 500lbs, but not 2 tons!
