so on top of the rate increases and hour changes and delivery changes the USPS doesnt feel the need to scan the boxes of live express shipped birds any longer.

or any packages for that matter. Everything we shipped yesterday and are expecting today have been checked in at orgin PO and little to nothing else

Same here. I sent out a box of eggs on Saturday and it shows the acceptance at my PO and then processed in Tampa on Sunday and that's it.

My daughter just turned 18 in January. We took her to the restaurant of her choice and she decided that CASH was what she wanted for her birthday. I also bought a gold locket and chain and had it engraved. Even though she probably won't wear it now as she gets older it will always remind her of that special day.

Not bad idea's at all. The locket thing is right up her alley, and she does have to eat. Thank you guys

off topic: please forgive.

So I am pretty darn depressed.

I was asked to do a furniture inventory of the building which I initially argued against because I didn’t really see the value-added. And it was going to take quite a bit of time. But the boss insisted and I rolled up my sleeves.

Then, after contemplating it, I thought why don’t I incorporate the use of intelligent dynamic furniture blocks so that when I am done, I can extract the data to a spreadsheet whenever needed and it would be automatically updatable at any time in the future. And I could also extract just the data for certain rooms so that when we go in to do a room reconfiguration we would know exactly what we had and what we needed and could craft a concise list of exactly what we needed to buy or bring up from the warehouse to do the work.

I crafted some intelligent blocks and showed the boss the potential. He hadn’t even known it was possible and He loved it.

And then with his next breath he asked me to write a read-me file so that if they got rid of me that a novice could still operate the blocks and extract the data.

Welcome to modern American business management. They want your loyalty, etc. but none is owed the employee. Sorry to hear that your manager was so insensitive. Maybe that is a sign combined with the cutbacks that you should either open your own consulting firm or look for another position. Whatever happens, please do not take it personally. I have been involved in several companies with layoffs and the decisions made to cutback have nothing to do with job performance in most cases. They look at insurance costs, possible future retirement payouts, number of dependents, wage base and make decisions solely on money savings instead of who is the "best" employee.

*sigh*

I can't add much to caj's response, which was excellent. I'm just appalled. What's worse, I'm used to being appalled. It's not even surprising anymore.

G'mornin all! Hope everyone has a great day!!

Good morning! I've been spending the morning getting everybody cleaned out/new bedding/lots of food and water for the impending storm, bleah! Sounds like it's going to be short and sweet and then all melt, though -- I like that part of it!

I need opinions....
My oldest is turning 18 in April. What do you do for an 18th birthday. This is my first child to reach this milestone. She is not overly social, she is really a homebody. She wants her hair and nails done, but I want to give her more. Just not sure what to do for her. Her Dad and I are trying to plan something. We had planned originally to take her to Gatlinburg with a friend for a weekend of fun, but we have not sold my parents house yet, and money is still tight. The inheritance will not be disbursed until all the items are liquidated. So I am looking to spend no more then 200.00 at the most. I'll just take her to Florida later this year to make up for the lost trip.
Any ideas?

Yeah, I have to admit, recollections of my son at that age are the same as everyone else's -- cash is king :) Unless she wants a chicken???

Wow

thank you!

COF, We are forecast to get 6 - 10 inches. About 1 1/2 on the ground now. Heaviest snow should show up mid-afternoon throught evening. The worst part is the winds at 20-30 mph for this evening which will cause the road problems for Wednesday.

Schools and many other public places posted closings last night. I'm hopeful this is the last hurrah for winter and we get spring on time.

Let's hope!!!

I agree with Celtic I would have loved a spa day with my mom for an 18th b-day or even with a best friend. But the cash thing well who wouldn't like that!!

I remember when I was allowed to get my hair and nails done for prom and I was more than thrilled but then I was never allowed that stuff before that. To me dinner at a nice restaurant is a more for child in their 20's thing at least that is what my parents did for me. Does she have a car? You could get her something like tinted windows, headlight covers, new cool looking floor mats or I liked 8 balls(as in pool balls silly) so I had them on my shifter, fuzzy ones on my mirror, ones on my antenna and door locks-corny I know but I liked it, just do what ever she likes.ok so maybe not the floor mats or that other stuff I reread that and it sounded kind of dumb, but I swear I liked it at 18 it wasn't THAT long ago!!

Wow I know I don't currently work in the real world right now but boy I am glad when I do go back I will not be going into that part of bussiness. Factory work may not be very glorrified but there is something to say for not dealing with that kind of stress. Everyone has to deal with stress of losing a job because of economy but in factory work(or at least the companies I've been at) you just have to make sure you do your job right and turn out quantity with quality and your mostly golden, only dealing with the ocasional **insert any expletive here** not so easy to deal with person!

Incubator Catastrophe Update!!!

You guys have some great cold chicken hatching thoughts. I am amazed. Four out of seven Seramas hatched yesterday, exactly one day late. They look great! My ducks finally deemed themselves ready to consider hatching and 3 out of 6 are pipped. No word from the turkeys (now two days late).
