Where is everybody? Been slow today.... especially since I posted my offer on the swap

Maybe all the icky weather people are having? I need to get a second incubator for just hatching before I can claim anything else.... This only every three weeks thing is a weee bit frustruating. (Which should read as i'm-obsessed-and-want-to-hatch-more!!!) I am supposed to be hatching to sell too and the next batch is me only. Ooops. Had to sell all of this weekends hatch to justify! But all are sold, and will be picked up tomorrow!

On a very happy note, I found a local source for Spangled Russian Orloffs, and I'm picking up some eggs on Thursday!!! Yay!!

I am happy when I have a week between hatches

usually mine are 3 days apart. I think the longest I have gone over the fall was 10 days.... maybe 14.

Speaking of bators hahaha heres an updated picture. I tossed a little over.a dozen clears and moved 13 to the hatcher... And it still looks like this

Ack!! That's what my bator is looking like!!! But not so nicely color coded, I put dates on some of them, and the others are marked to breed, etc... time to get a big bator like Hurley!!!

Sew..... I moved a little roo for us today.....I have a WL x Exchequer pullet and she needed a roo so she got a CCL

She is laying pretty regularly and he is mounting pullets so we will see. Half the chicks would be white and half some kinda color but they should all be BARRED and blue egg layers I think. I will start collecting next week and see if they develop.

Ohhh... I want to know how they turn out, too!!!

I think the decision you have made is the right one. which is unfortunate as they are the only ones that I know of importing birds...but it is obvious that they don't care.

Sorry about all the frustration with GFF, I don't have any myself, but reading everybody's stories about them is really sad!! Reminds me of the unmentionable person that owes many of us eggs... I just can't think about it b/c it's so frustrating... ah well, live and learn, right?!

On a much happier note, my White Bresse rooster is crowing!!!! Wow, does he sound rough too!

Also, I want to start canning this year. So, can someone tell me exactly what I need to acquire as for as equipment to do this? I've not started reading up on it yet but I'm already making a list of what I want to can.

Yay for the crowing roo!! It is so funny when they start crowing!! One of my Ameracauna roos would practicaly fall over everytime when he started, lol... Looks like you got some good advice on supplies and such... I like the Ball book of canning, lots of tips and recipes in there I think Better Homes and Gardens has recipes, too

I've decided to move my garden to a larger batch that the previous residents had used for gardening. We usually grown tons of different peppers and tomatoes. I just picked up some blueberry bushes call Pink Lemonade. I'm thinking of turning the old garden into a blueberry batch. We love our blueberries around here. I need to go get more bushes though.

Wanna do a side swap, plants for eggs????

I think the rule changes are good. I am another person who doesn't claim hens choice because I would like the best chances possible to get a pair of a breed. If it were hens choice of just 2 breeds, then I would be more willing to get them since I would have 3+ eggs from each breed to get chicks. Just my opinion.

A couple other things:

CONGRATS Hurley on the bator!!! Now no excuses for not claiming swaps you want!!

Hollowoak... WOW, so glad no one was hurt in your fire scare!! You were being watched over, sounds like!!

Loved all the talk and pics of turkeys from a couple days ago... wow they are pretty birds, now I just need a few more acres and a few less neighbors and I could have some, too!!

I was here! See! But now I am going to bed. I ordered all my boxes for USPS and some cotton gloves and I am sure there is something I forgot to do..... tomorrow.

Ok. Ameruacana question. I always assumed a black pea comb meant an EE... Is that correct? After googling, I can't confirm it... I just thought a true Am had to have red pea comb

I had eggs that should have gone to lockdown yesterday, but didn't, so must go in this morning. My first batch from Pysankigirl (second batch just went in) and my first batch from DMRippy (got two more claims coming!). Can't wait to see what I get!

I have been paying off my egg swaps early before Spring. Some people have been getting chicks and juvie birds from me instead of eggs.

Hopefully you are talking about Wayne. I think all the thread admins. including myself have managed to buy all the birds he owed eggs from to help cover his swaps.
