Hatch day! I have one each of cuckoo marans (possibly blue) from DMRippy and Barnie from Pysankygirl out, plus more pipped. From DMRippy, 7/8 went to lockdown! From Pysankygirl, 5/8 went to lockdown, but 7/8 had started developing.

Such cuties!

I have eggs supposed to hatch today. I hope we can make it with the generator until then. It is starting to "miss" and husband is displeased that we have had to run it non-stop because of the incubator. I guess no more incubating eggs for me in the winter.

I am hearing the same grumbling about the 24h generator "just" for eggs and chicks. Ah well... At least we found some firewood so the heat is no longer an issue. Hope the power comes back soon!

if the Silkies r mine they r white. We lost all of ours except 2 whites to a coyote who got under our fence

Chain. Padlock. Motion sensors with stop photography are good, too.

If misery loves company, I'll share, just to cheer you up kinda? Just put Mar. 10 eggs in lockdown, fumbled an Olandsk dwarf egg that was doing beautifully. The inside membrane didn't tear although the shell is pretty banged up and missing a few big chunks, so I tucked it in to the hatcher anyway but won't be surprised if the shock killed it :-(

In happier news, although neither of my GLB/BLB eggs made it, I now have the cutest little black and white SFH chick from TNBEARCHICK, and two lovely little silkies -- buff? Or are they white?

I'll get pics tomorrow. I'm going on 25 hours without sleep, I need to crash! Cya all tomorrow!

ACCKK. in going to be in so much trouble! I went to the feed store to "browse" the baby chicks... And am now taking home TWENTY two week old New Hampshire. I simply couldn't pass them up. She sold them to me for $1 ea to make room for a new batch of chicks. She also had about 30 white leghorns, same age and price...

OMG, I would be slaughtered the minute I walked through the door at home....of course, the fact that I have 4 guineas in the brooder, 42 eggs in the incubator, 24 more eggs on the way to be incubated and 20 SGD chicks arriving on the 13th would probably have something to do with that.

Wow! Point out to him that you can take them to auction or CL the ones you don't want to keep, and more than get your money back!

Oh no! I am so sorry! If you were closer I would give you one of mine

It is alright I am sad but it happens and the other three girls were fine. My little brown red pullet is fine and that counts. The blue was in a fight and her eye was hurt previously and she just must have been hurt more than anticipated and couldn't deal with shipping. She looked like such a nice hen too!! I just can't seem to get any breeding stock LF BLUE Cochins! It's frustrating. When I get them this fall I will just make the trip and bring them home myself!
Looks like 'the foot' will be my only chick from those two sets of eggs as well. Very discouraging! But he is a very cute chick. Just needs a cool name to go with his unorthodox arrival!
I think you should name hime Mumble happy feet

Ha ha ha! Looks like that chicken math has struck you too!

Uhh, yeah... I have 100 eggs in my small styrofoam Bator, 10 chicks in the kitchen under a heat lamp, an now 30 chicks in the brooder.

I only bought them because I have customers who wants just pullets no matter breed. They pay $3 a pullet so I can make money off them. I really can't take on any new breeds, and these are just hatchery... Which is great for production but not for me to breed. My neighbor also wants me to grow out three pullets for him, and doesn't want to pay for the BCMs I have been selling so this was a cheaper way for me to get some to raise for him.
Still, until I get them sold I hope my husband doesn't go out into the shed

It certainly has! It always does

Bad timing on the feed stores part to offer me such a good deal, since I JUST talked to my husband last night, and got him to concede to buying two 10x10 dog kennels (if we can find them on CL) to make 4 more chicken runs. I only got him to agree because I got my first salmon Faverolle egg yesterday :D and I need to seperate them from my free range flock to start breeding!
