I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy!!!!!

The craziness and hard work has paid off!
Now I can just be at the farm and focus on art and chickens and turkeys!!!!!

I MAY even be able to participate in the backward swap now. I wasn't going to because I didn't want to put up any woodworking offers when I still owe some from previous! So if I can bust them out and get them finished I'll be offering wood goods and eggs for the easter backward swap!!!!!

SOOOOOO relieved! Being a landlord an hour away does not suit us!

Mztre: I agree, chicken people are the best. I don't talk about my son very often in my circle of friends. They tend to have an anti meds anti establishment view, and I get tired of justifying my decisions about my son. It has been nice to share and get supportive feedback :hugs

ProTi: I am fortunate to have had a fantastic social worker/therapist for my son. Unfortunately she is about to move to England. My son started Jr High this year and it has been a rough transition for us. He went from a closed classroom of six-ten students and three teachers with no homework and lots of supervision, to multiple classes with crowded noisy classrooms and teachers that don't entirely understand why he can't write a descriptive paper about an emotional event. He is still in special ed, but he is not at all what she is used to. Even the paper that I helped him with, I had to tell him that he didn't need to describe the bathroom tiles in quite so much detail (why he was fixated on that I don't know). Anyway, I am learning the new system. The hardest thing about my son is that he seems so normal that people expect normal reactions from him.

Every area is different. Our process started in TX. The early intervention program there turned out to be an electric company here :/ And the services provided were very different. TX assigned me a social worker here and there was one on one in home therapy sessions. When I moved to Utah, the program had a different face entirely, when I finally found our current therapist, I learned that an outside advocate is really helpful.

Good luck to all of you who are starting out, it can be very frustrating, but I feel that it is worth it to a) be sure that your child is getting the help and care they need and b) know your rights in your state. As I said before my son was diagnosed with an iq of 65 when he was 3, I didn't believe it (i had them show me the test and repeated it in DJ's language and he passed all the tests, they told me it didn't count because i had changed the parameters of the test. I get that but it didn't apply) and kept searching for the right answer.

So....Good news from today was it was under 1,000 to fix the transmission on our Truck. So I had it done. The oldest and I treated ourselves to both breakfast and lunch out today since we had to wait on the turck anyway. Went by the feed store and spent 115.00 (not bad!!). Then I get home and have phone calls from our finance company on the DH's truck, and the light company. DH did not pay the truck payment last month.... He also did not get the light bill paid and they are disconnecting it Monday! What the heck!?! I think I am going to have a stroke, my blood pressure is up and I am fighting mad. I paid the truck payment. I asked the light company if we could put that bill off until the 14th. She said no...I asked why? "B/c you have two broken arrangments." "What is that?" "Well you said you would pay on a Friday in July, we arranged it. The payment was not processed until the following Monday morning. Then in May the same thing happened." "Really?!?"
All I am going to say is...I want a smoke really REALLY bad!

It's nice to have somewhere to "talk" about issues like this... My youngest son has issues in school as well and it can be a struggle. His mind just doesn't work like everyone elses, and although he is a brilliant child, super smart, his grades sure don't reflect that. I just had to go to the school this morning to talk to all of his teachers. They had a field trip to go on today and I wasn't going to allow him to go if he was failing any of his classes... I have talked to the principal about getting him some help. For him it would mostly be organization and keeping on task... The teachers seem to think it's just him being lazy about it. One of them told him this morning that he needed to take responsibility for his work and not have to be reminded or have his Mom come to the school... I agree with him having to have some responsibility, but where is the line between him just not taking responsibility or him not being capable of taking responsibility?? The school has talked to me before about special ed, but I don't want him put into that program. He does not need special ed, and I'm afraid they put kids in that program and then pigeon hole them... "Oh, he's just special ed..." Sigh... Raising a child with special needs is hard...

:hugs that is very frustrating! I have been there before. As a smoker, I also understand your impulse. A year ago, I tried to quit. My quit coach at the time pointed out the reason why you feel calmer after smoking (which is a stimulant) is because smoking forces you to take deep breaths and increases your oxygen levels. They encouraged me to take deep breaths when I was angry. Perhaps it is worth a try for you. I also used a straw to try to mimic the hand to mouth fixation. I am routing for you.

I felt the same way about special ed, but I have found out that it has changed a lot since I was a child. My son tests ata senior high level in math and science (he consistently scores 100% on those test scores). Once he figured out how to read, he started to score in the high 80's to low 90's on those as well. Without the extra help, I don't think he would have been able to advance with his grade level at all. Not because he is at all stupid, he just learns differently and needs someone who understands that. I fought to keep him out of the program in kindergarten, then I fought to keep him in it in Jr. High. Having an IEP is also super helpful. Even in special Ed, a child can still take advance placement courses, they just get to have an advocate to help put it into their language. My daughter is in mainstream classes and I have been much more satisfied with my son's special Ed than my daughter's regular class.

I understand your hesitation, but maybe you could meet with your school's special Ed teacher and get a full idea of what that would entail for your son?

are they really that concerned about it? seems mighty inflexible.

Our youngest Daniel 5yrs old is in a closed class room which is a closed class room environment and it has worked well for him he is making great improvements in all things.
