Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

They as in the guy who has some big tutorial on how to wire them. I've got it figured out and everything I believe is wired properly, BUT I need a new darn thermostat because of the hefty wiring destroying it. I just paid for one, but the ship date is: March 26th - April 11th. So... Not only am I putting a LOT more money into these incubators than I had planned, but I'm missing out on the most important hatching times to bring money IN to cover the $1k + that we've spent on these birds in the past month, and gosh only knows how much I'll be spending on new breeder runs. :/

betta, I was going to send you your last set of eggs this week, do you want me to wait? or do you have room in back up inkies?

A quick perusal of google suggests that they are, indeed, a lot like fingernails and it should grow back, given time

Here's my suggestions (although they're probably all things you're already doing): if the other birds are harassing her at all, isolate her. If she stops eating because it's too painful, try soaking crumbles in water (like you're fermenting the feed) so it's a soft mush for her to eat. I'm really not sure about the BluKote or other disinfectant -- it might be a good idea, but then again I don't know if it would interfere with the beak regrowing. Like I said, my instinctive response would be to dab it, at least for a day or two BUT that's an instinctive response, not an educated one.

That's all for what it's worth. Sounds like the prognosis is good!

And I really, really need to get pics of my adolescent SFHs from KYTinpusher. It's the cutest thing -- all the males have crests, all the females don't! What are the odds?

Thanks for the info. None of the others are paying any attention to her at all. I have made sure she is getting enough to eat. She made small work of the meal worms I gave her as a get well soon treat. I am afraid to put anything on it as it is drying up and keeping it moist may make it worse. I sometimes wish I were an avian vet....

Please hold them KK, I have to take April's bator back in the morning and the LG is absolutely crammed full. I have so far lost 10+ turkey eggs from these tabletop incubators, including the last eggs from the turkey hen who died, the entire first set of midget whites, and I think one or two RP eggs from you. Looks like I won't have any turkeys from the 6 or so shipments of turkey eggs, if everything keeps going as it has been.

I IMed you on FB. I can set 24 eggs for you here?

It's (err, WAS) a sportsman. Everything runs on AC, but the relay that they insist you have to have is DC, so you need an AC to DC converter for that relay to work.

At this point, I have to order another thermostat, because we just confirmed that the big wires pulling that one set of "bays" helterskelter has destroyed the thermostat connections. So, that's two relays and now a thermostat so far. As if it wasn't enough to have to buy one of each.

What kind of thermostat did you get? Mine sure did not need a relay to make it work.

I am not a certified electrician but I have fooled with it enough to know that the size of the wire is not what trashed your thermostat. Size of the wire is not what controls the amperage or wattage of the electricity, if the wire is to small it could burn in to but big or small the same amount of electricity comes through the wire, thats where the relay comes into play. It is supposed to cut the amount of electricity going to the other components. When you plugged it in and your relay fried sounds like you had something wired wrong somewhere causing a dead ground. Results of a dead ground, fried components. I think you can go to GQF and somewhere on their site they have wiring diagrams for the different sportsmans. Sorry you are having such a rough time.
