Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I think everyone who purchases eggs should send the money just like you would for any other order. I think if your paying a PP Egg Swap thread payment, it should be sent as a gift. There is a large difference between the two things.
The first one, your making an order for something you want delivered in good time b/c your item is time sensitive. You also do not want to order 24 eggs and have only 10 develop. (happened to me recently) You need buyer protection for your order.
The second one, your swapping. Your gifting someone 17.00 paypal as your swap. So you would not need buyer protection as your not getting anything sent to you.
I would have given her the chance to "do the right thing", but to each their own. My Dad was the same way. He refused to deal with anyone who he felt was wrong or unethical. No matter how badly he wanted the item.
:O)

This is not a bad hatch rate for shipped eggs :idunno

Had my last Am hatch, so 11 out of 15 from chicksamongus :weee very thrilled. Two splash are silkied, which is exciting.

I am assuming silkied- NOT Silkies- breeding is like the frizzle gene breeding?? Like, I have to have one (or both? Unlike frizzle breeding?) to be able to get any silkied feather offspring?

Haa I was just going to ask you what the c was on those eggs. Lol

Ok sooo I have been cleaning brooders and moving chicks until I can no longer see straight.

I have more hatching and no where to put them.

Anyone want these for what BM6 or I owe you

Marans chicks from DMRipey including cuckoo

Or

Lav amers split to black? The ones that say ML on them.

They would ship next week. PM me what swap you want one of them for.
What are the ones that say ML on them? Are they the Ameraucana's?

I understand your thought. These had nothing at all wrong with them though. They were packed like fort knox as well. I know many things can go wrong with shipped eggs, which is why I ordered more then I needed. :O)

I gotcha ;)

I am praying for my Dutch bantams to all lay eggs today  they are slow layers. On march 2nd they laid me three eggs, which was good, but then I went a week with out getting anything!! I have to set eggs for AyeUpChuck, but I may have to push it back a week.

I think for silkied you need two copies of the gene

So now I am led to ask...what are the expectations for the hatch rate of shipped eggs? I consider 40-50% a good hatch on shipped, even with good packing. The condition of the shell doesn't tell you what's happening inside.

I ordered two shipments of 12+ eggs. I got 32. Of those 32 all arrived intact. Of those 32 none had broken air cells. (I did a major happy dance, but like I said they were packed like fort knox)
Candled on day 8. Only 10 showed development. I opened up the "bad" ones. None where fertile. Three where not opened b/c they stunk badly and when candled where black on the inside.

Normally for shipped eggs I expect low and hope high. It does not bother me to get a small few non-fertile eggs. If I am paying for shipped eggs that are fertile, then I want them at least 80% fertile. The same as any of my customers would want and expect.
I was using this as an example. I should have put more into it and not assumed that others would know I ment that they should have been fertile.

Just an FYI to everyone that I shipped eggs from the University of Arkansas. These eggs are sponsored by a university program under a couple of conditions: the eggs or chicks are not to be sold under penalty of the program being shut down. I don't think any of ya'll would do this, but I wanted to put it out there so you know. The birds are yours and any eggs they lay or the chicks hatched from those eggs are free to be sold. They just don't want someone profiting from the sale and hatching of eggs they are providing for free under university funds.

Now that public service announcement has been posted: everyone have a wonderful week and swap on. If anyone is interested in Buttercup eggs, send me a PM as my three pullets are laying about 18 eggs a week. I wish everything else layed as well.

I found a hideout stash yesterday from my layers. They had a nest in the barn with about 12 eggs in it. Unfortunately, I had no idea how old they were so those went into the trash. I would have fed them to the dogs but was afraid I might open a stinker. If this happens again, anyone know a good way to tell the rotten eggs?

I think you can just do a "float" test. Put them in water.
