Like both parents have to be silkied? Or silkied to smooth will give a percentage of both?
Both parents have to carry the silkied gene to have a chance of hatching silkied chicks (hookless gene is not dominate) Silkied feather x Silkied feather = 100% Silkied feather chicks. Silkied x split= 50% Silkied and 50% splits carrying the Silkied gene. Split x Split = 50, 25, 25
Keep in mind that the original parent stock was very inbred so you should cross your Silkied feather to smooth unrelated Ameraucanas![]()

The original stock was badly inbred and alot of these birds were dying for no apparent reason. The goal is to get far away from the original stock but keep that hookless gene.
Best bet is to breed the Silkied Feather ones to several unrelated smooth feather Ameraucanas and then breed the smooth feather siblings together. This will give you a good percentage of Silkied feather Ameraucanas with plenty of fresh blood. You can then breed the Silkied feather ones together for 100% Silkied feathered Ameraucanas (except don't breed your original again)![]()
