I print all postage at home, its an automatic 15% savings on every package we ship and customers like that we can save a buck here and there

I am out of ink... Someone required paperwork copied and printed, used over half my ink and half my paper and I never got my reimbursement. So, I am actually stuck handwriting my labels now.

Are you talking about the #7 box you get at the post office?  There is no surcharge for that box it is within the sizes the PO requires it is THEIR BOX.

Yes, the #7 box. I didn't think so. I have never been charged a surcharge on that box before! The girl measured it (no idea why when the dimensions are right on the darn box) and said the other guy never charged me it because he never measured it.

crackpots here too................. everyone wants to "walk around and take a look" or they want a deal, or can we come during the week at 5:30? uumm no, no and no

speaking of cracks.........just sorted eggs and loaded hatcher trays

Ducks: Ancona and Silver Appleyard

Chicken: CCL and EE and Light brahma (LF)

Emu (check)

Button Quail (check)

Sebastopol goose and Dewlap Toulouse goose (check and double check)
Oh yeah then there is the ones that tell you they are coming on say Saturday and EMAIL you and tell you they need to come that night instead..... it is already 5:30 and WE DON'T live there for you to just drop by.

I really like your idea of hours for people to get chicks. I might start that on Saturdays between 12-4 maybe once a month or something and first come first serve on chicks unless you pay for them in advance with PP. Other pickup times are available for orders of 20 or more chicks. HUM liking this idea.......

This is the rule for size from their site - I would think that your box was under the balloon price! Distance would definitely make big difference in price.

Generally, commercial parcels must measure:
 • At least 3 inches high x 6 inches long x 1/4 inch thick.
 • Except for Parcel Post and Parcel Select, no mailpiece may measure more than 108 inches in length and girth combined. Length is the measurement of the longest dimension and girth is the distance around the thickest part (perpendicular to the length). Maximum weight is 70 pounds.

Machinable Parcels
If you prepare your parcels so that they can be processed on Postal Service equipment, your parcel is considered "machinable." Machinable parcels are easier to process and deliver, so they are less expensive to mail. Machinable parcels must measure:
 • No more than 27 inches long x 17 inches width x 17 inches high.
 • No more than 25 pounds (35 pounds for Parcel Select and Parcel Return Service, except books and other printed matter which cannot exceed 25 pounds).

Balloon and Oversized Prices for Parcels
Some parcels may be subject to specialized prices. Priority Mail (zones 1-4) and Standard Post and Parcel Select packages that are large but very light (less than 20 pounds) are charged the postage for a 20 pound package. This is often referred to as a balloon price. Very large Standard Post or Parcel Select packages (over 108 inches but not more than 130 inches in combined length and girth) are charged an oversized price.

When I use a paper box (12 x 17 1/2 box) they charged me a surcharge and it was going to CA and it had 40 + eggs in it. Was still less than $30

There is a bar code on the box they can scan for the size

Quote: Yep we will hold if they pay ahead. We will do appointments for those who work weekends if they pay ahead. We even transport if we are heading out somewhere (like to Ocala)

Saturdays are super busy here, but it is nice to know once a week we clear out the babies and roll in the new hatchlings. We also so far are not releasing breeding groups of chicks from the CCL or RB when we have them since we are the only ones in this area with them. I stay pretty firm on my prices too, I work deals if someone starts buying multiples of a variety of breeds

I will stay firm on my price on some. But chicks are usually $3 each some $6 and $10. No discounts. The higher birds are higher for a reason... harder to hatch. I have some SFH, I am not keeping them just too weak to worry about. SO I have 5 that are 3 months old and I am asking $15 each straight run (too high?) and I don't want to come off that price. I will keep them if they don't sell for that price.

I think I like the idea of PREPAY for pickups.

Wow, just got caught up! So...do roosters just go crazy in the spring? My EE has suddenly started charging at anything that comes anywhere near him.

It was a beautiful sunny day here and we got to play outside, and the puppy played with the kids without being on a leash, and behaved! He didn't run over my littlest, but ran to her, and sat on the grass to cuddle with her. Then he went exploring the creek with my boy. What is it about kids with dogs that just looks right when they're together and playing?

It was sooo nice to have a good day.
