Quote: They are very calm ducks as well, and lay lots of big white eggs. They are big ducks, though not quite as big as a Muscovy.

nope our FW Muscovy are the biggest ducks here, then the SA, then the Ancona and finally the khakis (who the entire flock is coming up for sale shortly)

Herducks safe travels, enjoy the visits along the way

These Khakis that you sent for Herducks are wild! They flip out every time someone moves close to them. They were brooded with the Appleyards, so my Appleyard ducklings act the same way. My other Appleyards were a lot calmer as ducklings, which I appreciate!

I wish I had a camera to get a recent picture of Lemonade for you! He is HUGE and is getting his curly feathers in. So far there is no sign of angel wing.

What percentage protein do you feed your geese and ducks? I am feeding chick starter from a local mill-it is 21% and seems to work well for everything.

I also need any advice you can give on goose egg incubation.

khakis are rotten and nervous and it takes a good long while to calm them down. We brood all ducks with muscovy ducklings now and they are very mellow. The SA will calm when the Khaki are gone, but will take some time. The khakis as juveniles teach the SA to get up and forage more lol.

We feed all Mazuri,
starter 20% (http://www.mazuri.com/mazuriwaterfowlsarter.aspx )
matenance 14% (http://www.mazuri.com/mazuriwaterfowlmaintenance.aspx )

as soon as I see the wing blood feathers starting I switch them over. Thats for ducks and geese alike.

goose hatching eggs...............dont treat them like chicken eggs
they NEED to be on their sides the entire time.
the SHOULD be hand turned

from day 7 to lock down they should be cooled daily and misted with warm water to aid in the cooling effect (10 -20 minutes longer as you get further into incubation)

whoo hoo! I have;

4 Jubilee Orpington (chubby blondies)
3 Blue Barnevelder (dark brown and a bit stripey)
6 Black American Bresse (black) (one is probably not going to make it- he is barely breathing)
2 Swedish Flower Hens (narrower bodies than the Orpingtons)
2 Partridge Brahma (ultra-feathered legs)
nice assortment of chicks there! I bet you are thrilled!!!
I have tried to let it go, but after I started regularly getting opened letters, cards, and mail plus packages that had clearly been mishandled, I filed complaints. I have filed 2 complaints in the past 2 weeks. Total, I've only ever filed 4 complaints with the USPS, but when I literally got more opened cards for Christmas and my birthday than I got ones that were still sealed, it was time. Best of luck to you!!!
That is awful...someone opening yor mail!!! Yikes!
OK I am hitting the road! A little later then I hoped, but at least I am ready to walk out the door finally!
oh gosh...is it time already!?!?
Safe traveling! See you TOMORROW!!!

X2...be safe so that I get to meet you and give you a hug in person!

yes, Hollowoaks has graciously agreed to take in a few orders for eggs so that I can get some from people who cant normally ship into VA so I am thrilled!!!
so I need to pm a couple of people and see if they can ship some eggs to her in time. If she gets them by April 6th that should have them hatching by the time she is coming up for the Sheep & Wool festival!

My husband is going to KILL me!!!

Pysanki,
Did I mention that I have 17 silver dorkings from the University of Arkansas lines incubating right now? Fingers crossed for a hatch that is good enough to get a good breeding flock started. Dr. Bramwell joked that the cockerels from these are really kind of slow on the uptake. They are just the opposite of your normal juvies cockerels that jump anything with feathers.

I'm having a problem with my call duck embryos dying in week 3. I remember this happening a few years ago and I don't remember how I remedied it. I think I will start hand turning the eggs on their sides and try to force the breeders to eat the Mazuri feed (that is a little too big for them). They have just been eating my chickens layer feed and I think the lack of high vitamin B is an issue.
