Tarantulas fed, roaches cleaned and divided into 2 bins. Now to figure out the mealworms. May dump them into a rubbermaid tub and start taking the beetles out and placing them in a separate container.

Fodder system will be here this week. Will have to make room for that. Garden seeds are sprouting. Need to get more tomato varieties though. Compost pile is done thanks to the neighbor. I need to make a list of things that need to get done once DH gets home. Hope he is well rested. The next month or so is going to be crazy around here.

Well, this has been an interesting morning. Both good and bad.

I had to put down my one Mille Fleur bantam Cochin rooster. He's always had raspy breathing. It was nothing contagious - I think he had a round of pneumonia before I got him and was never treated. Well he got worse this winter. So bad that any little bit of exertion made him pant and the raspy breathing could be heard 30' away. I felt it was time to just put him out of his misery. I had a severely cross beaked bantam Ameraucana chick hatch last weekend. I have never had to put a chick down and I stood there bawling. It was the sweetest ones (it's that how it always happens). It would sit on my finger and let me rub it's muffs and it's fall asleep there. -sigh- It's beak got really bad in the last 3 days, and I knew within a short period of time it wouldn't be able to eat. So, I did what I had to.

The good is that I have hatched my first batch of chocolate bantam Orpingtons! I am so happy! I also hatched one black 100% English bantam Orp from TKay's eggs. The one I thought looked weird from the beginning quit, I believe. I have 2 new MF bantam Cochins and a couple of my Ameraucanas, too. I thought the one chocolate chick wasn't going to make it. It didn't absorb everything and it was shrink wrapped so I had to help it. It made it, though!

Now, hopefully the duck eggs hatch...
