Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I think they must be xraying a lot more of the boxes because when I started getting swaps in I would get 10 to 70% hatches. I am averaging getting 1 or 2 chicks to hatch out of 18 eggs now.

Does anyone have a way to contact Birdnbeast? I have the Salmon Favs to ship to her from the NYD fun, and I haven't seen her on in a LONG time. I'll send a PM but if she isn't logging in it won't do any good.

yeap... got mine from Foley.

My son just got the call from his doctor about his prognosis. She says that he will have to have major testing to find out what all has been affected and then brain surgery. Problem is that the testing is very complicated and time consuming and the only place she trusts to have it done is the Mayo clinic. Our insurance told her they would not cover it. Now I have to start the process of fighting to get him the care that he needs and find out what we need for justification. Everything is on hold now. Andy comes first. If we have to sell out to get him the care he needs... Whatever has to be done will be.

Caj, that's so rough. My father worked in health insurance for years, way up the corporate ladder. Surprise, surprise, he's a HUGE proponent of universal health care.

I saw you already got a ton of good advice for places to go for help, starting with Mayo, so I won't repeat it except to say yep, they've had decades of dealing with insurance companies. Ask them. And big hugs!!!

You sound like me! My son is only allowed 20 minutes and he's only nine, but his much older brother tried some stuff that ticked me off. When he was I think 6 I had told him to clean his room. When it didn't get done I had a dumpster put below his bedroom window and had a tossing party. Now I raised my older son by myself with dot a dime paid in child support, so there was no replacing anything. He learnt real quick. As a matter of fact I made him get a paper route and got several also making him deliver all while I drove, bagged and tagged. He was so used to doing what he was told that when he was in basic training he was a tough nut for them. Didn't matter how early or how long he just kept going. His drill sergeant told me that when asked if it was too tough for him he said "NO SIR, YOU HAVEN'T MET MY MOTHER SIR!" Another one had to come over to introduce herself because when she asked my son if he wanted his momma he said the same thing. I got a lot of compliments from them. He's now an amazing 30 year old and I know I made him into what he is today.

You are doing the best thing for your son, and being an awesome Mom. If he argues tell him I could have been his mother!

HOO-RAH! You go, girl! :p

you can justify one chick if it's a good one...my most recent shipped/hatched was from papabrooder, and he sent a bunch, almost all went into lockdown and two hatched, the rest died in shell, no pipping at all, but the two I have are totally worth it, adds to the ones I have now...maybe it's just the wrong time, too many variables, shipped, weather, incubators, techniques etc...I don't even want to get into all the marans and ameraucanas I have tried to hatch... I have heard from a lot of people that their hatches aren't what they usually are....
I also have been to auction and paid more than 30 bucks for a bird that died three days later........

Krazykat, I was actually a bit relieved to read your post. My last three hatches have been awful, and nothing I'm doing has changed. I was really starting to wonder what the heck I was doing wrong...even though what I'm doing is exactly what I was doing before.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully I will get a better response from the insurance when I talk to them personally. Right now they do not think it necessary, and it is out of network.

Yeah, because insurance companies know more about medicine than, like, doctors and stuff, right?

Also, pysankigirl, those bunnies are the CUTEST!!! Bravo for rescuing them :)

I hope all those marans came from me! Ugh...I have poured out literally a many a scrambled egg on day 18 and then still more from some of my side swaps totally clear and non fertile! HOWndo you even broach that subject? You don't unless you KNOW that person believes you just wouldn't lie...I too have few babies from my swaps. Maybe the po is playing football?

DMRippy actually, lol. I just got am's from you. Mama2my4 has them going into lockdown under her broodies. :D These eggs are just not doing very hot lately. Now, November or early December, I hatched out 100% on shipped serama eggs, those marans are from December too. After that? Everything went to hell in a hand basket. Even when chicks have been hatching, they've been weak. I lost three exchequer leghorn chicks. It's just driving me crazy. Maybe it's just the breeds or something, but I've never had this crappy hatching and survival from my meat/egg flock.

Well, I have processed my first rooster now. Lots of learning curb there. I hope that I can cook him in a way that will be edible.

CAJ, good luck with the insurance and your son. You have been in my thoughts and prayers lately. :hugs

Brine him for 24 hours and then cook him. Or at least let him chill out in the fridge for a day. It will help the muscle to relax and improve on any cooking results. Good job by the way. It's never fun, but is necessary.
