On a separate, and very annoying note, a huge hatch of love bugs occurred today on my porch. Literally, none yesterday, 100s today.

For those of you lucky enough to not know of lovebugs... They are a completely useless and annoying soft bodied black bug that hatches in the spring. They have no purpose, animals, birds an my chickens do not eat them, they hatch in huge hoards, and they have an acid in their bodies that will literally eat the top coat paint off your car if left to dry. If you have to drive anywhere after a big hatch, your windshield will become so coated in them its hard to see, and they are hard to get off.
Yuck.

Ok, so we think fedex has them sy the hub in Tennessee. We are trying despartly to confirm this. But noone of course had the phone number for the dock. If someone coulf just hive reeses box water and a warmer, they may be ok. They may or may not be on a plane from mephis tonight. Doed anyone have anymore miracle phone numbers for fed ex dock in Tennessee?

Just what it says.  There are days it seems my posts just go by.  Just had a bad morning.  Found one of my Part bart dead this morning.

I hate those days. My worst was when I found my other fat girl dead on New Year's Eve. Gracie was my hugger between the two. Still miss her. Sometimes we just get caught up in our own crap and forget others need attention too. I'll send one of my little turkey hugs your way.

DH (who works for FedEx) says this:
Call 1 800 go FedEx tell them your trying to find a "smart post". They are at the main hub, he says, if they are getting on a plane in Memphis. I am 4 hours from Memphis. I would go in a heartbeat, otherwise. You will need the express number.
He also says to make sure you get your money back on this. The only way USPS is going to start doing as they should is to make them. He said Smart Posts come in all the time, and the USPS will leave them on FedEx docks for days. They know they are there, just do not get them.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry! Did you lose a chick or one of your older birds? No idea what happened? :(

On a personal note, looks like we are headed to the Mayo clinic next week.  We will head out on the afternoon of the 9th.  Andy has testing and doctor's consults on the 10th and 11th, and then we make the mad dash back down.  23+ hours of driving in 4 days separated by two days in a hospital = YUCK!

I'm sad for him that it had to be during the day he was supposed to fly out for his personal interview with CA Technology, but the doctors there said it was better not to wait until the next opening of the 22nd.

Keep good thoughts for us, and thanks for all the support.

That wonderful that they can see him so quickly! Please be careful - that's a lot of driving.

Hi ALL!

I am absolutely beside mysefl!!!  I have been at the airport TWICE to pick up birds that have not been on the plane :hit .  Now I am missing THREE boxes.  2 boxes from Reese and 1 box from COF.  I am just freaked out!  Now they are saying the *might* be in Tennessee because of ice.  Ice where???  We don't have any ice and we are the coldest place in the country.  I am absolutely heartborken!!!  I just don't even know how to help or what to do.  This is a total of over 75 birds that have gotten on a plane from two different part of the country that are missing!!!!

I am so sad for you. At least if you knew for sure where they were you might be able to call the location and have someone check on them.

once in fedex's hands they drop off the radar. There were storms which delayed some flights and backed up cargo out of memphis

It was one of the older chicks but not from the oldest batch of chicks. I only have the one rooster left of that batch. No clue what happened. Found it dead when I dropped the chicks off at home. I did get 2 more black barthuhners today. Super happy about that. I have 4 more coming in a week or 2 along with 6 more part barts to make up for all the ones I had to cull.
