Crystal, next spring, hopefully! Aren't they so pretty?

Olivia's Dutch doe had 5 babies last night. I found a nest yesterday that she had just made (inside a potato chip box that I left in the chicken house where the rabbits live with the chickens), so I knew it was time. I went out last night to bring her in and she already had them. One was dead and she was very jumpy (nothing new for a Dutch), so I didn't have much hope. She didn't want to be anywhere near them, and when one moved she nearly attacked it. We prayed and asked Jesus to help her care for them, and this morning she is calmer than she has ever been and 3 are alive and doing well. The 4th died this morning. She is a first-time Mom, too.

We had Mini-Lops when I was growing up and they were always calm and sweet, and usually good mothers. The Lionhead buck we have is also like that, but the Dutch are very nervous and wild-like, even when handled a lot. I have never seen her as calm as she is this morning. Olivia is so excited. She wanted babies for a while! She is on the lookout for another breed, though, and she wants to sell her Dutch. She wants something calmer and easier to handle. Any suggestions?

My box of 9 English Chocolate Orps still have not arrived that shipped out on Tuesday and was supposed to be here yesterday.

Silver Fox Rabbits!!! Big Beautiful laid back bunnies.

Somebody out here does it. He makes you sign a 2-year contract, PLUS he charges you $16 a MONTH for the priviledge of using your land for his hives. You get 5 lbs. of honey a year for "free" out of it.

What? That's bogus. People around here are looking for extra space and if there is surplus honey, they usually share.

Good morning chicken peeps!

I am wanting to plant a couple trees in my chickens free range area. Anyone have any suggestions or "no-nos"?
I have apples and pears and just planted apricots, mulberries and persimmons in one chicken pasture. I'll add more next year, and loquats are on that list. Really, any fruiting tree that can live in your area and that doesn't have poisonous leaves should be fine! You get fruit, the chickens get to clean up fallen fruit (which will temporarily reduce your feed bill), they have shade and some protection from airborne predators. Win all around!

Spring has sprung! Its been busy busy busy around here answering my CL ad for chicks/pullets. I got hatchery chicks from Meyers to sell the week of Jan 1st and another order on March 1st. Jan 1st pullets are $16 ea and March 1st $10. I'm out of Jan 1st's as of today and the order from March is going fast. Feels good to be paying off all the winter feed and new runs I put up! :D

When I reply to an inquiry I let them know that due to bio-security reasons I only meet customers in the drive with the chicks they are interested in however they are welcome to view the coop/runs from outside of the fenced area (which is right at the end of the drive). I was a bit worried about them coming out for security reasons and have my high powered pellet gun leaning against the back stairs for all to see and the dogs go wild when they come, no problems. ;)

I am trying to convince DH that Rabbits are cool. and I'd love silver fox...looked them up when you said you had them.
but then he pointed out that we don't have any grass....dooohhhh!
You don't need grass. Timothy hay or orchard grass. Or grow fodder like I am going to do and feed that to them.
