Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Well, I have some bad news. I've had some major issues with my chickens lately. I've thought long and hard about this. As soon as the chickens I have now have lived full lives, I will not be getting anymore. On my last hatches from shipped eggs, I got one chick out of over three dozen eggs and this one was SUPPOSED to be a Rhodebar, but it is yellow with two black spots. I had a great hatch out of my own pilgrim goose eggs, so I know it's not that. It just has something to do with shipped eggs that don't do well for me. Then, a few nights ago, a raccoon literally ate a hole through our fencing and killed every single Rhodebar I bought from madamwlf and then last night something ate through the brooder at the other end of our property and killed some of my chicks from CPL. I'm just done. We've killed at least 40-50 raccoons and possums in the last two years and they still kill everything. Nature wins this one. Thanks to all of you for being so supportive! Once my spring claims come in and the hatches are done, I will not be getting anymore chickens. I'll fulfill the orders I have out, but then I'm done.
OH SO SAD, hate to hear that, we have lost several to possums, dogs and one coyote.

Allright you turkey people out there, I have my five midget eggs ready to go into the hatcher tomorrow (day 25) and they are kicking and moving and looking very ready to hatch. The big question, since these are shipped turkey eggs (from flocksalot, of course): What should temp and humidity in my hatcher be?

I keep mine between 98 and 99 for lockdown, works for me

Same as for chicks, and yes sometimes those little stinkers hatch early on me. I stopped going by date and just candle them. I hope you get five of those little buggers!

In a week every time you put your hand in the brooder you will have to give them each time to crawl in and get a hug. They will literally push each other out and crawl in. They are SO funny!

plus, you have to make up for lost time

Pysankigirl, you are dealing with so much.

for you as you need them from everyone!
Thanks. I am muddling through. and it does help to know that other people have dealt with these things, too, or understand how it makes me feel.
So true, I recently had a growout pen come down with Cocci, they really had no symptoms other than dropping dead over night. On a Sun, I lost four birds, on Mon, I lost four birds (started treating with Corid), on Tues I lost two birds and none since. I sent one of the Mon birds for necropsy and it was confirmed as just Cocci. In the pen, there were a group of 4 week old chicks and a group of 6 week old chicks and a big mixture of breeds, LF & bantam. All the deaths were one breed of 6 week old LF chicks.

Very frustrating.

So sorry to hear of all your troubles.
I lost another one...so that is eight total. I only had 21 dorking chicks and now I guess I am down to 13? it is only killing the dorkings! all the chicks I got from CPL and BM6 are fine! so weird that it has singled them out. I am not saying that it hasn't affected any of them...there are several that I am worried about, but so far they haven't keeled over. only the dorkings. it must have been a strain they had no imunity to passed on by their mother? (theory only, not based on any knowledge on my part.) and it seems to be killing the biggest and nicest ones...or that's how it seems. two were my absolute favorites of the whole bunch...
Okay, anyone who is owed Sebbie eggs from me or Rachael, send me a pm, please? I know Bettacreek and elieugene6 are owed some from me, but I think I may have missed someone. I finally have fertile eggs!

Congrats!!!!!!!! did you have to trim butts?
I just got back from a morning in Madison. We had our class for certified flock testing today. Yeah! We are on our way to being NPIP.
for a second I was really excited...we have a Madison near us here and I thought...oh she lives near me!!! fleeting dreams of doing lunch were crushed when I looked at your avatar and what state you were from....LOL

Hope everyone is doing well, I have been super busy here and boy when bad luck hits it hits hard. I just had to hand out $600 to fix my truck and $110 to put 2 used tires on my car.

and I still need to put at least $300 more into my truck, but I am completely broke and have no money to fix it.

Madamwlf I am sorry for the delay in your products I am working on them it is just slow going I have been very busy and haven't been on much lately.
I will be glad when the sports is over with and school is out so I can have some time to relax a little bit. Plus as fast as I clean the house the kids and there friends dirty it.

Of course we are the parents who has everyone's kids that come over to our house cause our house is cool and there's is boring so the kid's have there friends here all the time instead of us getting a break from ours. What I wouldn't do for just 1 night out with just me and my hubby. We haven't got to do that in 12 yrs. I don't think I would know how to react if that happened.

Anyway I hope everyone is well, I wanted to pop in and say

I think two of them have actually internally pipped already. I keep hearing chirps, its either that or I'm going a little loony from all of the hatching!

Nope your probably hearing cheeeeeeeps. I warned everybody that they like to be naughty right? I like those early hatchers. They seem so much stronger and healthier for some reason. They can however take their own sweet time getting out. I think they like to tease and mess with people. The last ones I had hatching were all shipped. I got some from one of my original strains and some from the Tom we sent south as a proud little stud. The first to pip punctured its yolk sack and yolk was dried all over the outside of the egg with a dead poult inside. The second died shortly after pipping. Two others have hatched. One will not make it. Three are till in the hatcher and are moving about, so we will see. So from 28 shipped eggs we have one for sure. Most were clear or very early death. Yet I know both were fertile as I have some from both previous. Doggone shipping! But the one poult is adorable. My goal was to increase my genetic pool for my Midgets, but since I was able to get my original turkeys back and purchase some new blood lines I'm thinking we will forego any further attempts to add further genetics at this time. Our pool is pretty deep with 25 midgets from 4 unrelated lines. Well unrelated for at least 8 generations for sure. I'm happy Ralph is getting to breed hens as he would get very little action here, so I'm not even sad about not getting any poults from him this time. Yet anyway. There are still three eggs from him in the hatcher. Psankygirl I would love to go to lunch, but we may need to do it digitally. I rarely leave the farm due to health and Virginia is just a little further than I could possibly drive. Beautiful country though! I would love to come out. Maybe I'll make it over that direction for one of the McCoy/Hatfield reunions. Would be fun to check out the crazy side of the family.
