I'm weird. I'm bi-polar, but have something like OCD. So, depending on how I feel, the house is either ground zero disaster or pristine. Thankfully, G has been the best for me. He helps keep it clean when I'm being lazy. Of course, our house can be cleaned and by the end of the day, it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months. Dust builds up to the point that you can move something and see where it was two days after dusting.

Once there are no more birds in the house, I'm sure it'll get better though.
I've never been diagnosed with anything but I have to wonder sometimes. When I am on a roll with a project (like the coop) I have extreme tunnel vision and it is all I can think about, until it is 95% done and then I am DONE. drives my husband nuts. he's wonderful because he makes me finish thins. but sometimes I crash and cant do anything, I have always blamed it on being tired...or lack of caffeine...better living through chemistry!!!!

dan it, now more keys have stopped working.....

by the way, you do use the h key more often than the key to the left of it, in case anyone was wonderin...

Has your husband ever tried medication for ADHD?  I am not much a of medication person, in general, but when I started working as a therapist I realized that my coping skills just couldn't overcome some of the obstacles I faced.  Honestly, having to interrupt a client in the middle of tramaua to say, "I am sorry, what did you just say, I was watching that really cool squirrel and thinking about chickens".  That was not my best clinical skill!  Beginning medication was really life changing and now I am ABLE to do some of the things I need to, it is still hard but it is a remarkable difference.  Also I have some good books I bought for my partner on living with someone with ADHD that really, really helped our relationship.  I would be happy to send them for you to read if you are interested.

Hubby won't take meds. because most are stimulants and he freaks over the side effects. His ADHD has caused him to loose soooooo many jobs. It's always a struggle with him. Our son is ADHD too, but managed without meds. The teachers have been awesome in helping him in that aspect. Although he still forgets to hand in his homework even when they remind him. Both are very bright, but always struggle with simple tasks. Some days I think I'm at my wits end with my hubby! He knows he has a problem, he sees the problem in our son, but refuses any treatment. Some days a rubber mallet would give me lots of peace.

The kiddos chickens really help him. He has to be organized with feeding, watering, egg collecting, selling, and cleaning. It seems to ground him in a way that other things have never did. Of course when the chickens are all in spaz mode he seems really calm and collected. He likes to do research on breeds and breeding on the Internet and has a really cool collage on the back of his bedroom door with breeds and info about them. It really helps him focus, but my hubby on the other hand gets too over whelmed by the kids chickens. I would love to get him on medication!

As for the banding....in Wisc it's anything older than 4 months. Same with testing. I just got certified to do my own testing. You should see if your ag dept offers that. It will save us a ton of money. Especially with the turkeys since they cost more and are more involved.

So the banding gets done along with the testing? Basically, I only have chicks. Does this mean I don't have to worry about it?

Living with ADHD is difficult. Mostly, it is hardest on the people around us. But, there are some upsides! Generally, people with ADHD are intelligent, creative and out of the box thinkers. There are some herbal supplements that can be helpful if the medications are too hard for him. Gatu Kola is a great herbal root that can help without all of the side effects. There are a number of vitamin supplements as well. Increased complex B is a good one. There are non stimulant meds available on the market right now.

I have found with medications, people respond very strongly to one and not another. I tried Ritalin, I went nuts for a little while. But, Concerta does not seem to have that same effect. I can say I was 100% opposed to meds until I was 25, but they changed my life!! And now I can keep a job when I couldn't before either. I recommend them only as a last resort, when other stuff isn't working. So, for you son, if he manages without them he will be much better off. But, with an adult, if he could manage to function well without them, he would have by now. It is one of the best health choices I have made, but it is not an easy one.

Would you be interested in the books?

The ability to "hyper-focus" and extreme tunnel vision is one of the symptoms of ADHD. Sometimes people just don't recognize it. The crash after is also common.

Ok....so I am thinking about taking some of my random left over chicks to an animal swap. When it says that testing is required and can be done for a small fee, that basically means I have to pay to get my chicks tested to sell them. Is this correct? But, when it says they need leg bands, is this something they get when they are tested? Or do I have to band them? What is the purpose of it? Thanks!!!
EVERY state is different on testing levels and banding no banding. You are better off contacting the swap organizer to ask these questions. bands are to ID the individual birds and prove they were the ones tested and cleared. The swap where you are may require ALL birds tested, and yes you will pay for each one to be done. But again, you need to talk to the swap people since every state is so different.

We test annually, but they dont band the birds, however 90% of my birds have permanent wing and or leg bands already. I actually need to go wing band the bantam cochins, and brahma flocks and leg band the rhodebars, CCL, SFH, & LLO.
