Just received two swap boxes (+ a mystery swap box from the WYGS thread!). Each of the 3 boxes was beat up, but due to the careful packing of each sender, the eggs came out untouched! The boxes came from Clover Run and KYTinpusher. Thanks ladies.

My whole house smells like fresh brewing Root Beer Syrup........

I will take special requests before the roommates steal it all..........
Ok, IM jonesing for syrups now! I love ginger beer.

I keep meaning to ask you, do you do Aquaponics with your set up since you sound like you are so compact? A lot of the people I know that are postage stamp sized do that.

I also meant to say I had not gotten your box when I talked to you! I got TWO boxes full of jam last week. One must have been from wygs. I was wondering who you had send to me from oregon!

SO this morning we tried the no sugar cherry jam. I freaked out... Squeeling like a mini pig or something, lol.

Mario liked it too but I LOVE tart fruit, so I was in heaven. I could not combine the 2 sets of jam, you could not taste the delicate marionberries after the punch of that cherry tart taste. I could see how it could not be for everyone, but OMG its for me!!!!!
I like my sodas slightly flatter than you buy at the store. The extra carbonation burns, lol. That's why I hate pepsi. So maybe that's why the yeast worked so well for me, lol. I looked at the soda streams. Too expensive for my blood, plus $30 for every 60L made. $0.50/L might not sound like much, but add in costs of the syrups and you're paying more than I can buy my coke for. Obviously it's not as good for you, but since I'm not a huge soda drinker to begin with, the money goes elsewhere. Now, it'd be way worth it if I got the grape vines I want and could make sparkling grape juice!
The rest of the world ( Australia, Euorpe) does flatter soda. I love the first hard sparkle sips where it does burn a bit! I stopped drinking sugar drinks entirely when I was in Australia, it was all tea and coffee.

Around here we get them refilled at target or our local kitchen supply.  I'll check out your list :D .

If you have any interest in soap, my supply is pretty well depleted. I have 15 batches curing and plans for at least 20 more, but they'll take some time to cure. Most batches have been gelling though, so they should be ready a little sooner than 2 months, lol.

I am so sorry that happened. I am, at times, ashamed to be associated with this profession. When done well, carefully and mindfully these treatments make all the difference in the world. When used thoughtlessly and dangerously they can ruin lives at best and cost lives at the worst.
x2! I'm graduating with my MSW on May 5... Sometimes I just wonder about severe treatments like "Haldol" and "Risperdal" which can have some REALLY nasty side effects.

Just to clarify, I'm not against meds. I actually take Ritalin, Remeron, and Celexa daily. I just wonder about the more intense medications that can do a lot of damage.

Hmmmm.....I think you have msytery boxes coming soon too!!!!

We have been doing a ton of research on Aquaponics. It is our next project, in fact. You can do amazing things with that. We are going to put the system in our greenhouse and dig it 5 feet so it can go all winter. You can also put the chickens over it and it will heat the greenhouse and the fish will filter the chicken poo. Lots more research for me!!! Put pretty exciting possibilitis.

I am sooooooo glad you liked the jam! I need all the feedback I can get so I keep getting better. I am still learning, especially about the no sugar stuff. It is ALOT harder to make, seal and set.

That sounds really interesting. Details? How does this work? What does it look like? Is this a hole in the ground that you put the system into?

We have a simple hoop house for a greenhouse. Actually, I used hog paneling to make the basic shape and built a wood door on the end. It was super cheap!!! And we cover it with 2-3 sheets of heavy clear greenhouse plastic. The Greenhouse is 10X24. Our plan is to dig a square pond right down the middle of the greenhouse and double line it with pond lining. The square pond is more like a trench 4X18 in the very middle of the greenhouse. In MN, it has to be a minimum of 4 feet deep to not freeze. I will probably try to shoot for 4 1/2. I would like to do 5, but at some point I am sure I will need to get into the pond itself and that is pretty deep. You put a grate over the pond and grow things on the sides in the dirt and in pots on top and the chickens can run around on top of the pond while it still gets air. You can also do a the true hydroponic root growing right in the water. Fill the pond with Talapia to filter water and for eating. In the winter, the pond will act as a heat sink keeping the greenhouse warmer during the night. The chickens also keep it really warm, but eat the plants so I am working on that. We usually keep them in the greenhouse in January to turn over all the dirt for the next year. We will need a pretty heavy duty areration system to keep the water moving, but I think we can avoid heating it. I am really trying to only use passive solar heat. I have put my foot down on this, because heating and lighting a greenhouse in the with defeats the purpose of our eco-friendly choices in general. Really. really efficient model. It should keep the greenhouse above 60 even in the fridgid winter. My goal is to grow tropicals and citrus in there!
