She is a buff orphington. Last time she tried to sit on 30! Not my fault, she kept stealing eggs. But that was too many, she was nutso. This time she is in a place no one will sneak in and give her more eggs, hopefully. I got her from someone who didn't have roosters or want baby chicks, so she had been denied motherhood. She has been trying to sit on the marans chicks that hatched last month, so it was only a matter of time.Wow!!! How large is the hen? What breed? I was nervous giving one of my girls 7 lol.
I have about 6 hens I rescued from people who didn't want broodies. And of course, my Marans are crazy broodie too, and don't start on the silkies... or the icelandics.... or the turkeys!! Pumpkins was sold because she went broodie too easily too.. OK no wonder its chick madness out there!! Those breese better not catch the bug!
I have .. 12 broodies atm . most have chicks, but 2 are still on eggs.
