Wow!!! How large is the hen? What breed? I was nervous giving one of my girls 7 lol.
She is a buff orphington. Last time she tried to sit on 30! Not my fault, she kept stealing eggs. But that was too many, she was nutso. This time she is in a place no one will sneak in and give her more eggs, hopefully. I got her from someone who didn't have roosters or want baby chicks, so she had been denied motherhood. She has been trying to sit on the marans chicks that hatched last month, so it was only a matter of time.

I have about 6 hens I rescued from people who didn't want broodies. And of course, my Marans are crazy broodie too, and don't start on the silkies... or the icelandics.... or the turkeys!! Pumpkins was sold because she went broodie too easily too.. OK no wonder its chick madness out there!! Those breese better not catch the bug!

I have .. 12 broodies atm . most have chicks, but 2 are still on eggs.

Broody hens are just so fun! You can do all kinds of things to them and they will just sit there and let you. I remember when I was little and I used to put doll hats on them. They just sat there and took it. Now of course I have slightly outgrown some of that behavior. Not all mind you,but some.

Lucy is our favorite serial brooder. She goes broody every few months. She's a dark Cornish so not a lot of fluff. She can still handle eight eggs in the dead of winter though. I love how WIDE they can get. Plus I don't have to clean up after the chicks until I clean the broody coop for the next round.

Quote: You will have some when you get your Sillies.. er - Silkies. They are very good broodies - and they LOVE to brood eggs. Not so hot on eating eggs because they keep going broody, too small to eat the birds (and odd dark flesh I have heard) - but cute as all getout and friendly to boot.

How many of your broodies are Silkies, Chiqita?

Went into the post office to ask about my r com mini Incubator that was sent . . . On the 9th.
Well apparently the person I bought it from shipped it the slowest way possible despite my paying 15$ for shipping which would have more than covered priority flat rate.
The guys said I have 8 more days at least until it arrives!!! ***!!!
My eggs better not that that freaking route!!!

When you get it, check to see if there is a dollar amount on the shipping label. If not, have the PO weigh the box and tell you what the shipping cost the shipper and then dispute the rest of the $15. Paypal has a section in dispute cases specifically for disputing outrageous shipping charges.

Lol^ sillies

If I ever get silkies! :( I always miss the eggs on eBay and everyone I've contracted on here tells me they are on back order :/ until June!
Anyone know of anyone who would be interested in a side swap of partridge silkie eggs for a jar of kippered salmon or homeade jam?

That sounds like an excellent idea! Thank you.
