now thats the way to start the day

I hate stupid people. I just had someone who come to the house to buy 4 pekin ducklings. They had seen an ad I had posted online about hatching eggs at $2each or $20 a dozen. They called and asked if I had any ducklings, well I just happened to have 5 hatching out at the time they called. They never asked how much the ducklings were and when they got here they tried to hand me $8 and take all 4. I told them uhm, I was asking $5 each for the ducklings. They said but the ad says $2, I said yeah, the ad also says hatching eggs, not ducklings. I will more than gladly give you 4 eggs to hatch for $8 but ducklings are $5. The lady got a little nasty with me but they should have asked how much they were. Why in the world would I sell the ducklings for the same as the eggs?!
because arent you just doing it to fill the world with ducky love and allow idiots the chance to buy ducks?

I got them to make Olive Eggers originally. Not really worried about the egg color. Might even cross them back with Legbar at some point. My new roos might have the brown egg genes.... I don't have a roo from the greed eggs..... 100% pullet hatch.

I'm regretting selling them to them now. they only ended up buying two because they didn't like my price. now watch the going to call me in two days and tell me they're dead and I when I ask if they have any water and duck starter they're going to say well no I didn't know they need water and I was feeding them whole corn. I think you should have to go through school and get a license in order to have animals of any kind.

That gives me an Idea!

I think I'll create a "care sheet" to print and give to the people buying my chicks and ducklings if they have never owned any before.

I advise everyone verbally on basic dos an don'ts if they will listen. I love it when they want to know why it costs so much more for chicks that are 3-6 weeks old versus 1-5 days old. Uhm my work food bedding loss of birds, I do have to say most of my customers fully understand why I charge about double for pullets and are glad to pay it.

Good morning y'all! (well for me anyway)
Got home from the auction around 4 am, by the time I put up birds

and checked birds, and settled down, it was 5 am, so I actually slept in til 12...first time I have done that in ages!

They only had one pair of Rhodebar chicks (day old) and they went for 25.00 each, so I passed. The Chocolate Orps were bantams, and might have considered getting 3 or 4 but they wanted 30 each on them and you had to buy all eight....so that was a big fat no!
So at the end of the day (night) I came home with 5 silver pied pea eggs, a pair of Blue Brassy Back OEGB,(hopefully trading those with a friend that bought my other pair) and two pair of Blue Wheaten OEGB, plus the 5 Mille Fleur D'uccle, that I traded for the day before.
Oh and the best buy of all.... three tier stackable (or not, whichever you decide) brooder cages for 120.00

krafty, I saw where you had bad hatching with my eggs....I am so sorry! I wish I knew I could send you poults without killing them, I have never shipped live before. I could hatch some for you and send them to you....my last hatch was 8/8
