This not good. It's not too hot of a day out but I already have a black barthuhner hen panting. I'll be upset if these guys can't handle our summers.

Oh, wow, no.

That gives me an Idea!

I think I'll create a "care sheet" to print and give to the people buying my chicks and ducklings if they have never owned any before.

I think this is what I am going to do also, that way if they didn't listen to what I told them than they can read the papers and see what I told them again! I did sell them the two that were the biggest in the group cause I figure the two tiny ones would get killed somehow.
I advise everyone verbally on basic dos an don'ts if they will listen. I love it when they want to know why it costs so much more for chicks that are 3-6 weeks old versus 1-5 days old. Uhm my work food bedding loss of birds, I do have to say most of my customers fully understand why I charge about double for pullets and are glad to pay it.
See, I advised them verbally on food and always having water and bedding etc. but that doesn't mean they listened. UHG, I just have a feeling that will end badly!

Just do what I do and buy them big huge barrel fans to sit in front of all day. My EE's come in from free ranging when it gets really hot and sit there all day in front of a 42" fan. It is funny to watch them push and shove to get closer to it.

5/6 of shipped EE eggs hatched so far! #6 hasnt done anything yet but the chick is fully formed the only problem is I can't see through the egg good enough to see if it is moving or not. I can barely make out the air cell on those eggs. But 5 out of 6 on shipped eggs is no complaints!

don't want to hijack this thread but there must be good egg advice here. I was trying to hatch 13 Jersey Giant eggs, I have the Hova 1588 that sets the temp. I kept the humidity around 55% and this time I did not let it run out I was on this. Lock down I got it up to 65% and waited day 21 nothing but I set them late, day 22 my first chick and he looked healthy. But after this I am seeing Mushy chicks, big bloated belly flopping on their back and panting. I lost one already and another looks kind of bad. So I now have 5 birds in a brooder with the 250 w lamp on them. One hatched today late and I am leaving it in the incubator to get some energy and one more is still pipping at day 23.. The incubator was clean, I did not wash the eggs because I thought this was wrong.

Last question If I store eggs to hatch what temp range can I have

Sorry to hear about your chicks. To me 55% seems high for days 1-18. I keep mine between 30-40. In ld I boost it to between 60-65%

I dry incubate* until LD, then 60-70% humidity....get much better hatches now. And, from what I have read 45-65 degrees is optimum for storage

My opinion, i would say 55% humidity over the entire incubation period is too high. 65% for hatching is ok. When I store eggs, I keep them unwashed in open cartons with large (airsac) end up, for up to 10 days IF I am setting them myself. My incubator closet temperature is always at 74-77 degrees this time of year.

I dry incubate too. Meaning, I don't add ANY water until day 18 when I stop turning them for hatch

Ok, I created my chick care sheet. Here is a link to it if anybody wants to read it and make any suggestions to improve it. (it is mostly just copied from stromberg's site)
