I'm not sure one's going to make it. It's spending a lot of time sleeping. I've made sure that it's drinking, but it's not doing much else.

I always dose up my shipped chicks with poultry drench. I put 3-4 droppers full into a quart of water. It always helps survival rates.

I am getting a friend of mine into chickens.  I showed her the different breeds online and she met mine.  She went all excited about orps.  I would love to have some orps but have never had any myself.  Would y'all recommend them for being friendly?  I have heard that they don't lay as well as some other breeds...fact or fiction? 


she is an empty nester and is looking for a new challenge and her husband already built her a big coop for mother's day.. 

How could you not love an orp? They are calm, friendly, fat and fluffy! And when they are broody, let you do whatever you need to do with them. (Even put them in the bathtub when their broody box got flooded out)

I love orps!! I have lemon cuckoo orps that just follow you around- the pair is Snicket and Prissy.

Ah! Pictures would be good, wouldn't they? Just came in for some water (I am dripping in sweat!) and will take my camera back out with me These are decidedly not predator-proof, if the predator is at all determined. They probably could be made to be with a bit more money spent on materials.

Around here, I don't worry too terribly much. I had a problematic skunk last fall that was going into the chicken shed (which really isn't predator-proof at all) and yanking hens off their perch as they slept. I moved the roost up beyond skunk reach, no more problem. Sadly I can't build what I want to right now, which would be like Fort Knox for chickens...

I am baffled..... I have chicks that look healthy, happy, eating well and running around one minute. The next they start gasping and die in less than a hour????? What the heck is this????

My brooder is a rubbermade tub with cut out squares covered over with screening for airflow.
They are still on fleece blanket
Not sure about the temp, but they are not huddling or on the ouskirts...they can go right under the light or get away from it.
I am feeding fermented turkey starter
