Okay, so you rabbit people.

can rabbits be fed without comercial food?  I may have the husband convinced to do rabbits but I have to convince him that they could feed us in the event of a zombie apocolypse and buying rabbit pellets just isn't going to give him a warm fuzzy.  I don't need them to top out at their highest weight...just be able to be healthy on forage and clippings of what we can find on our property.  Is that do-able or a bad idea?  I am envisioning a rabbit tractor that we can move around and we can supplement their grass with clippings of branches and kitchen scraps (I do go through about 24oz of carrots a day with my juicer and they would get all the tops from them and any additional vegetable trimmings)

It can be done. The smaller scale the better. I did this for a little over a year with my rabbits. 3 female and 1 male. And we sold meat rabbits. Just a heads up make sure you have a stock pile before baby bunnies show up or its hard to keep up.

On the subject of rabbits.... I have a Champagne D' Argent doe that I was pretty sure was pregnant and last night she went from no nesting area to a nest with a butt load of hair in it. How long do you think before the little guys are born? How much are they worth? I bought the pair as a registered pair for $80

So we've been dealing with a very itchy puppy the last few weeks. First antibiotics, then meds for mange, now vet calls and says she has ringworm.

More meds and lab work every 3 weeks.

Once mine had a nest full of hair it was usually within 24 hours. On the subject of rabbits does anybody know where I can find some quality satins? I have looked everywhere and cant seem to find any. Another question anyone here have bees and have you used a top bar hive. I almost have my guy talked into to letting me have a hive and I was thinking of making one? Thanks.

I was actually not thinking about breeding them at all...LOL I was going to keep the males and females separated...like an "in case of emergency put these two chemicals together" type of a thing.

Does anyone want to split these birds with me? I want the Isbars, Breda, a few of the Legbars and a few of the Silkies, and maybe the Campines. But I can't absorb between 85-100 birds just overnight. That leaves open some of the Legbars, the Marans, SFH, Basque, and Silkies. I ran some numbers yesterday and it's going to cost me about $2500 between the auction, gas, and trailer rental to go get these. That equates to about $30 per bird, with no gender bias and no breed bias. I need to make up my mind pretty quick as the auction ends in just a few hours.

If I end up going down for these, I could set up a chicken train - Missouri to Texas.

For ringworm? Can't you just give her a bath with iodine soap?

I really wish I could but timing is awful. DS' medical bills have me tapped out right now. LOL Hope you get someone to partner with you. Good luck. It sounds like an excellent buy.
