That's like when I told him the chipped paint spot on the bathroom wall made me think of a pipping egg. I also got THE look

Love it!!

you know your addicted to chickens when everything you see, hear, or say somehow related back to them. :lau In your head they do anyway....but not DH...he gives you that what the heck/!? look.    How can he not understand my chicken speak?

We went to bed and DH asks "what are you thinking about?"

Umm chickens, what else? ;)

Hahaha You all should see the look I get from DH whenever a box marked "Fragile" arrives for me. "Eggs?" is all he says now, though. He's learned :)

I already have plans for next year's additions :)

OK, I thought the discussion would be better here.

Wouldn't chicks be kind of insane shipping wise? I would hate to be back to the person no one wants to claim their stuff because of shipping. And I think if you changed it to buyer pays shipping it might hold up the thread or get confusing. Unless you are talking about local pick up only, and that only works for a few people.

With how fast this thread can go on occasion, if we put up something that gets retracted because of a misunderstanding, and its 2 pages before someone realizes that, can you IMAGINE untangling it? SO I guess I vote for any change of rules to be simple and clean.

That is my 2c.

The sender would pay the shipping since they are the ones offering chicks instead of eggs. It's like the very RARE eggs that are offered here on a daily baisis. You claim what you want and offer what you can afford.

There is the 24 hour rule if they are stuck up more than 24 hours they are done for the week.

Oh, I think they would be popular. Heck , Id take them. I just don't want anyone upset at us east and west coaster for saying mine :D.

If its just exactly the same thing, its simple. I am just continually amazed at the difference in shipping costs from charged shipping, id guess.

for my own info, do chicks have to be a day old for it to be safe to ship them? or can you ship them with food? I guess I need an education.

(and yes I think we are all insane anyway, whats your point , mwahahah!)

I think I checked the cost to ship the same chicks your way and the EXPRESS mail was 25.00

Like I said if it's regular chicks priority would be ok.

I think if anyone were worried about getting dead chicks or replacement chicks then they might not want to claim chicks because stuff does happen.

I was very nervous sending those Serama chicks that they would open a box of dead chicks at the other end.

You do need a heat pack another 2.50 to go under the pad in the box they warm it to 100 degrees. I took the chicks straight from the incubator to the box. I did consider sending Gro gel with them but decided against it in case it melted or they got wet from it.

I also made sure the PO guaranteed next day delivery they do NOT always guarantee overnight on next day. In fact we drove a about 25 miles to another post office so they would be there the next day. We dropped them off at 3:30pm and they were there at 7:30am.

Shipping times do vary dramatically those chicks were only going 400 miles but if shipped from my PO would have been 2 days.

The next chicks I am shipping are going 1400 miles and are overnight from my PO. It has a lot to do with where your shipping hubs are and airports and delivery locations.

If anyone needs help with shipping let me know I will be happy to help.

Shipping chicks is not for everyone, I did not sleep a wink until those chicks arrived.

Yeah my only experience buying shipped chicks was simply awful. I received a box overfull with chicks, it was a mix of day old, week old, and some older. They spent 3 days in transit. No food or water in the box. Four of the older ones were DOA and two more died within 24 hrs. It was a BYC member and I was not given any refund, I was offered replacements only if I would pay shipping (which ordinarily I wouldn't mind doing except the chicks that died shouldn't have been sent in the first place). I also paid $30 for the original shipping which ended up being priority, not express (so what was I paying for?). I would probably consider buying shipped chicks again, but only if they were really special and there was a solid replacement policy in place...but that's just me.
