I got 2 red, 3 blue calico, 3 buff barred, 3 black/blue mottled, 3 columbian, 2 lavendar, 2 partridge, 2 buff columbian, 4 blue/black, and 2 calico. There are 2 columbians and 1 partridge I don't think are developing, but I left them in. They have only been in the incubator 6 days. I can't wait to see what hatches!

New rule should be no posting pics of birds because now I want all of them!!

I don't know any chicken people who are scammers lol! My guess (since I'm not a mod and not in "the know") is that people may be worried about events such as illness or predation that could be catastrophic to our flocks, thus preventing our ability to fulfill future swaps. I unfortunately experienced that firsthand earlier this year. I had a nice flock of Olandsk Dwarfs, but because of a failure of containment, I lost all but my cockerel and one pullet to a predator.

I am guessing (again...I know, bad habit) that the moderators are trying to prevent anyone from being in a situation to have to come out of pocket monetarily (on a large scale) to compensate people if that type of catastrophe did occur. Just my 2 cents, though.

It was a sad day here. We had to cut down my weeping Willow tree. The roots were diseases with crown gall. Couldn't treat it since this tree sits in the middle of 3 pens. So we cut it down.

On a good note, that mean the silkie pen can now be expanded. There is always some good that comes out of the bad. At least that's how I see it.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your willow. I spent many weekends at my aunt's camp on the river growing up. There were many willow trees along the water, and we would fish under them every afternoon. I have a very strong sense of smell, and the scent of willow trees makes me nostalgic for those summer days. I hope you can plant a new one!

I'm sorry if I've hijacked the thread...I was just too busy at work today to comment on anything.

I was chained to my desk today and am trying to catch up on my threads now. I'm having withdrawals! :)

Since everyone is posting photos, I thought I'd mention that I have a few on my profile page under my albums. I really need to update them soon. My bantam Cochin girls and my sole remaining Olandsk Dwarf pullet started laying last week. I'm dying to set some, but my incubator is full....AND the Cochins and ODs are all running together. I'm sure they'd be cute little mixes though lol!

Just curious if any of you are very familiar with genetics regarding pattern. My bantam Cochins were hatched from eggs from Lucky Pickens here on BYC. I have 2 gorgeous mottled boys that are almost identical....I'll be keeping one for sure. The only 2 girls I kept are a calico patterned girl that came from her blue mottled project pen and a silver laced girl with really good type but who has a few feathers with incomplete lacing. I am thinking the mottled boy and calico girl would produce some nice mottled chicks, but I'm clueless about the combination of the mottled boy with the silver-laced girl. Any guesses? I do have a silver-laced cockerel, but I'm on the fence about keeping him. I have WAY too many boys!

These pics are about a month old and taken with my phone...

mottled boy - he is very wide and is really filling out now

Confetti - calico pullet

silver laced pullet - not a very good pic, I know

Beautiful birds!

How big are the eggs that bantam cochins lay? I've never done bantams, but that mottled boy is gorgeous and may just change my mind!

Thank you! The bantam cochins are awesome...they are very sweet birds. It's a shame that you don't live closer because my 2 mottled boys could just about be twins (Tweedle D and Tweedle Dum) and I'm only going to keep one. I won't have any problem rehoming him at a local swap, but that sure makes me nervous. I like to know my birds will be cared for properly. :/

At least one of the girls started laying last week, and I've had an egg from the 2 of them every day. I've never seen the silver laced girl show any interest in the boxes, so I think only the calico looking girl is laying. I expect the eggs to get larger after they've been laying a while, but here's the one I got today.
