They will not test your rabbits. I guess it will depend on your Tester, and how easy it will be test the peafowl. I did not have any chicks at the time of testing, but the guy who tested my flock wanted to test any poultry I planned on breeding for the year( until the next testing)

Sorry to hear about your birds, Tim, that is very sad and frustrating... if I have anything you would like, I would love to send you eggs in the spring!!

Interesting about the NPIP.... do they test the flock every year then?

Yes, once a year. I believe you are supposed to notify them when you add to uour breeding stock- but I don't know if that means they will come test them, or if they just want an idea of what is being bred.

I just want to interject about the NPIP.... it is a STATE program and every state is different. In TN they only test older birds like 4 months old. The first time they test them ALL over 4 months then when you renew they randomly test your flock. Fees are different in each state too. Here it is only $25 a year no matter the size. It is also OPTIONAL here.... recommended but not required. Some states don't even participate..... Like Hawaii.... some states REQUIRE IT.

I have finally finished a summary of all the swaps since the beginning of this thread up to Nov. 15. It is sorted according to each swapper and includes the swaps you claimed and the ones you promised. It can be accessed here:

Here are this week's current standings as of 11:59PM EST, Tue. Nov. 27. For all potential new swappers, we welcome your participation, but please read the rules on page 1, post #1 of this thread.

Game #1 - Whenever someone goes over 7 swaps, they lose 2 swaps the following week. The first person to catch it and post "Jinx"- (name of person going over), gets an extra swap in the current week. If crazypetlady (CPL) goes over, everyone gets an extra swap that week, and the first person to catch her and post "Jinx-CPL" gets a special prize of eggs from CPL. Start stalking!

CPL went over this week, so everyone gets 8 swaps this week!


Game #2 - Whoever claims the 50th, 75th, and 100th swap of the day (yes, I think we will get up that high this spring or before) will win an extra wild card swap to be used in the winner's week of choice.


Those in red are done swapping until 12:01 EST on Sun. Dec. 2. Those in yellow are getting close to a limit.

Below is a list of the new swappers that still have to complete their initial 7 swaps, so are limited to one swap at a time until each one is verified. Once you have been cleared by crazypetlady, kraftyladies, babymakes6 or madamwlf for another swap, you may claim another, regardless of what my list says. I don't keep track of whose swaps have been verified, just the swappers that need to have that done. My list is only published once a night, but your swapping status may change a few times during the day. Once all of your 7 initial verified swaps are completed, your name will be moved to the big list. I may not have everyone's name here that is already swapping, but all new swappers will be added here until I hear differently. In Florida, it is free. But yes it is state to state. I think some states do more testing the others too. In fl they only test the two

Here in Maryland, blood tests are done on all birds older then 4 months and throat swaps are done on at least 30 birds every 90 days. The program is free but the testers do charge to come out to your house. She charges me $1 per bird.

What does everyone think?? Should we NPIP or not worry about it. In MO there is no charge but I didn't think to ask if the testers charge.....
