Hatching for Valentine's Day???

Thanks for the advice and the encouragement.

I did pull the 6 eggs from under "Bob-the-hen," and placed them in a plastic box with a wet face cloth underneath and a heat lamp above. I attempted to candle, but saw only big blobs.

No pips, no chirps, no bobbling about. But, they're on my kitchen counter for the next few days just in case. "Bob-the-hen" is very happy with acting as hovering escort to feed/water for the 4 she has, so perhaps that is just what this dozen produced.

Thanks to all who responded.

The one Silkie that hatched is still hanging on. The 'gunk' still hasn't fully dried or broken off yet and all its feathers are all slicked down and stuck to it. It looks so tiny, but is peeping away and trying to stand up. Not sure if it will make it or not.

I don't get it. I thought that if it didn't fluff up, that meant there wasn't enough humidity? Its been at 70% since before this chick hatched. I hate my incubator

Congrats to everyone getting cute fluffybutts

and Happy Valentines Day!

My first one hatched at 4:30pm yesterday. And just now it is looking a little fluffy. My humidity is at 65%. I didn't think it took this long to fluff but it looks healthy, so no complaining here...

So you have 2 hatched so far slickchick? 4:30 yesterday is just about when this little Silkie hatched. Its a fighter thats for sure. Hope it lives after all its gone through already!

I snuck 10 eggs under a broody Silkie yesterday, 5 EE eggs and 5 mixed brown eggs. Have no clue whats in any of the eggs or if they are fertile yet, bought the dozen at the auction Wed night. Can't wait to see if they are going to hatch.

Yep.2 hatched so far...there are a bunch of pips too...I'm still anxiously waiting for my BBS's to hatch from Tuffoldhen....I think one of her's may be next...This is my first time hatching, and I didn't realize that this may be an all weekend event!!! It is well worth it though. I think your Silkie will be fine...it is a little scary in the beginning when they are flopping around and chirping...makes you feel helpless, but they will work it out. what makes you think that the silkie isn't doing well?

I had 5 mille fleur d'uccles as of bedtime last night. the other two were pipped. I haven't checked yet this morning.I have 2 brooders in the same room and I need my coffee before I wake them.

There are 5 duck eggs in with them. I hope not damaged from lack of turning for 2 days. They aren't due until next week.

It just looks so skinny/tiny, not really opening its eyes yet and still has like half an inch of umbilical cord? type stuff hanging from its tushy. It can't really stand alone or walk around, it just kind of leans against the rest of the eggs. It has a really strong peep though. Just acting a lot different than my last hatched chicks did 14 hours after hatching. I have my fingers crossed, but I am expecting the worst.

If this one survives, it may be the only hatchee. No pips from the other 8 eggs.

Its so weird how one hatch can go fine, you do everything exactly the same the next time and the hatch fails miserably.

ETA: This is only my 3rd attempt at hatching, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. First hatch flopped also, ended up with one white chick (which I still have and have no clue what it is lol). Second hatch I got 14 chicks (mostly shipped eggs), they are now 3 months old and I just sold 8 of them.
