well kinda sad news, lost all the remaining eggs. appears they could not break out. I checked each one and found it fully developed. the humidity was good (65-70%) only thing I can figure was they shrink wrapped while removing the other chicks. but they had to come out. any ideas?
I opened the last egg to see about my one remaining chick and it was alive but much too weak to get out. It died minutes after I opened it and put it in the hatcher. I left it with only it's head out and it's bottom still in the egg but it would only open it's mouth, not gasping but trying to peep without sound. It was destined not to make it but I like to check anyhow.
If you worry about shrink wrapping the babies then put a warm wet cloth or shelf liner into the hatcher when you take others out. It happened some in the summer here but got better when I used a wet shelf liner. I have even briefly laid it over the unhatched eggs.
I do not remove my chicks until the last are through hatching or it gets too crowded. I do take the shells out though as I write who hatched and what color they are before the shells get crushed. Even in my cardboard egg trays the chicks crush the shells.
We learn with each hatch and I have hatched more than 80 batches in the past year. I still lose some but often it is just nature.
