hatching geese eggs

good luck.. Just had my first experience this year with hatching my own. Bought 25 Pilgram eggs.. misted once a day, hand turned about every 4 hours during day, husband turned once in middle of the night. Hatched 17 out of 25.

Sounds like everyone is doing great. I candled last night and they look good. A couple I wil wait and see. I have 18 pilgrims due aroud the 28th and another 21 due around may 7th. Seeing everyones goslings Im getting excited.

Some pics...

Is it supposed to be this bloody?
Is the chick in the correct position?

It's not "zipping", it's just making a giant hole... whatever works?

*nervous*

So are you in lockdown or you going to wait till they pip

going to wait to do lockdown til tonight i think. i'm on day 27 now. the one with largest aircell is internally pipped and tapping. i could see movement in all of them last night at candling.

Balbinka - your egg looks like it might be from a first year layer. The eggs are smaller and the chicks are sticky and dirty looking. Give them plenty of time but you'll probably have to make a break in the membrane around the top in a zip line. Keep them moist and after they hatch don't look at other peoples cute fluffy chicks until yours have had a couple of baths. They'll be perfect but it'll take time.

It was a day early.
It pipped on Day 29 and hatched within several hours of pipping. Literally... RIPPED itself out of the shell. The incubator looked like a bloody massacre.
(my other egg pipped on Day 29 as well, today is Day 30 and I'm not even sure if it'll hatch today! this particular baby was definitely early)

The blood was not normal, she (maybe he) had an extremely bloody and swollen navel. She was very weak.

Forced down some electrolytes and mooshy food last night.
This morning she's fluffy, holding her head up, eyes are open, navel is no longer red and bleeding, and she's making a great effort to stand up.
I'm surprised she survived through the night. Let's hope she continues progressing, still iffy- but I am doing what I can.

No one told me geese don't walk well for the first couple of days. Some even have trouble holding their head up. I saw pictures and thought mine were in trouble but later I realized it was all within normal. I didn't leave water in because they were too wobbly.

Sounds like you're doing great.
