She is becoming impatient about the eggs as well.

I'm starting to think that the ones that didnt hatch heard all the screeching these two were doing and decided they'd rather stay in the egg because the world was just too awful. Sheesh!

I went to steal some eggs from my embden's nest and she was on it. She was on it yesterday for a while too, so I KNOW she was not laying again! I'm going to go out and check to see if she is STILL on the nest...it wouldn't surprise me. So looks like I might have a broody embden on 7-8 eggs

Hello all!! Well.... I'm gonna do it! I'm taking the plunge and venturing into geese. I already knew what breed I wanted. We wanted some Toulouse. So I've been researching and reading you guys info. I pm'd Pete back and forth and felt that I was ready. I had already bought 4 Toulouse eggs and was just waiting on them. I also wanted some dewlap Toulouse but was having trouble finding some. Pete suggested I wait til next spring so I was....... Well in my search for more info I saw where a fellow faverolles fancier had just closed an auction on some dewlaps. Someone I knew had some but I had forgotten. I just pm'd her to tell her that I had sure hated that I had missed her eggs. She let me know that at that point the buyer had back out already and they were available. The price was too good to pass up! So here I am waiting until today for her to mail them. Lo and behold I get an email from her this AM that she has 3 extra eggs that another buyer backed out of and she'll throw those in for me (unless I didn't want them). I said sure send them on. So I got four Toulouse eggs in today and am due for 7!!!!! Dewlaps on maybe Friday or Saturday. Sheesh! What was I thinkin. Ha!! Th dewlaps are holderread stock, the parents being some of their elite show stock so hopefully well get some good enough for my daughter to start showing. We have a chance for buffs from both groups of these.

The first set of toulouses rested on the counter today and went into the bator this evening. As this is my first time goose hatching, I will be following the "Bible of Pete" for the duration. The second set will hopefully go in Friday evening. So wish me luck!!

Sounds like I'm gonna need it....

Yep, she's still on the nest. Here's to the hatching gods hoping that all the babies don't turn out to be boys, cause I'm fairly certain I won't be getting those babies away!

O yes I had a magpie duck hatch today as well. Need to get a pic up. It is really cute I will say.

How do you know if a gosling is shrink wrapped? I had a baby pip over 36 hours ago. With no progress since, I shined a flashlight in the hole and could not see a beak, just a bit of body and not much movement for a while. I could see clear up into the air cell from the hole and no membrane in the way so I removed a bit of shell so I could check on it. Its head was turned WAY away from the initial pip and hole in the membrane. It has since torn the membrane, with slight bleeding, so that its beak is clear. Even with high humidity the membrane seems to be drying out around the hole the gosling had torn and there has been no more progress over the last 4 hours. It also looks like the thick white membrane is pulling away from the shell. Is it getting stuck? I dont want to risk it by helping but I dont want it to die because I didnt.

Break away some of the shell where the pip is. If the membrane is stuck to it or if you can see any dry down then it is stuck. Or you could just wrap the egg (leave the pip uncovered) with a warm wet cloth, that always works for me.
