So I have 8 polish and 3 ayam cemani in my incubator.
Originally had 4 ayam but lost one at 14 days. One ayam seems less developed than other two but very much alive.
Polish all doing well at lockdown candling.
Last night two had internally pipped and we had some cheeping.
This morning I came down to one external pip and some cheeping.
We are on day 21.
I feel so anxious and impatient! Need to stop staring at the incubator!
How likely are they to hatch if they were healthy at last candling?
How long between external pip and zipping?
It's been a number of years since I incubated and that was in a homemade one, every other hatch was always under hens.

They should all be perfectly fine as long as humidity and temperature are correct, and from when they pip it can take sometimes up to 8 hours, they're just taking a breather and resting, then start zipping real fast (in my experience)
Hope all goes well! Its always very worrying and exciting at the same time!

I had two eggs hatch 10 hours before day 21 and now none are even pipping, so I feel your anxiety!
Tell me about anxiety! I’m on day 24 and had one hatch early this morning and have not noticed any other movement. I’m not really sure what to expect at this point. This is only my second time hatching and its been a couple years.

With an external pip and cheeping on Day 21, your chances are pretty good.

Good question but no good answer. If it has external pipped it should be in position to hatch. But it still has to absorb the yolk, dry up external blood vessels, and do other things to get ready. Some eggs start on that before internal pip, some do a lot before external pip, and some wait until after external pip to do most of it. These last ones are the ones that drive us crazy. I've had some take almost a full day between external pip and zip. Mine are not that consistent. That's frustrating because it is out of my control.

I know it won't do any good to tell you to relax. Just don't do anything silly and let us know how it turns out.

I have one hatched chick, zipped and out pretty fast! Lots more in egg cheeping happening now.
Bit worried about the ine who has pipped in the wrong place though?

Day 24 here now, and no other pips, movement or peeping. 2/9 eggs hatched. :( I'm thinking thee humidity was too high (`~70) and they couldn't position correctly or their saddled air sacs caused problems. *Sigh* it's unclear as to the main cause.

It’s so frustrating. I’ve heard humidity the last three days can be between 65 and 75. But I don’t really know. I did discover my incubator temp is about two deg off. I expect that was most of problem
