    lazydaisyducks New Egg

    Jul 11, 2016
Hi I have had to put some call duck eggs in the incubator at the last moment when the mother duck abandoned her nest the other day. Two eggs hatched and she left the nest with them , unfortunately they died. So I'm trying to save the other eggs, only one seems to be working out. He started moving and tapping his beak last night and seemed quite active. This morning he's tapping his beak but less active. I'm worried if I should intervene as he's a call duck I know they find it hard to hatch sometimes. I'm new to this , have never done anything like this before so ! But really anxious for him to make it since the first 2 died ( we just found them by the pond frozen so think the mum took them outside too soon)
Should I just leave him in the incubator and let him do his thing or should I take him out and make a tiny air hole ? Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks.

I think you could make him a little hole so he can breath, (have you already?)

Has it piped at all yet...Do you have it in an incubator with the humidity high at around 60 to 65%?...If not it could be shrink wrapped in the egg...You can tap a small hole on the fat end of the egg where the air cell is..You might have to assist it out id the membrane is like rubber...?

I can try to help you..I just assisted 6 of the little poopers..:)

Unfortunately he died before I intervened [IMG]. I could see there was no movement any more at all when I candled the egg and I made a tiny hole and still nothing . I ended up chipping away at the egg and he had definitely died earlier. I think it's the membrane, seemed to be wrapped tight around him. So annoyed with myself I didn't do something sooner. He's the 3rd one we've lost this week with the other eggs not moving or hatching at all so really disappointed [IMG]

:hugs I'm so sorry for your loss.... Maybe the mum abandoned the nest because the duckling wasn't meant to be :(..... Keep on trying and don't give up!

very sorry to hear of your losses [IMG] call ducks are the hardest variety to hatch because they are bred to such extremes
    what color was the membrane?
and had it actually made an internal pip?
