Hatching Pea Eggs!

No thank you, At one time we had over 75 breeder peafowl we have sold almost all our birds we had 25 breeder pens now down to 4. It was fun at one time but not any more just don't enjoy it now, I need to get into something I know like cattle, exotic pheasant and exotic deer. So you guys have fun.

I spoke with our hens this afternoon and told them that they were only supposed to lay 10 eggs but they just looked at me like I was crazy.

I forget sometimes that most of you raise plain peafowl and not Javas, and I also don't feed that Super Peafowl Kibbles & Bits feed.

Yes none of mine are greens.....but my bronze hens didn't lay that many, no i don't feed the super feed either

So it is harder to get eggs from greens right? Are they more picky or when it comes to laying and they just don't like being in a pen laying or something? One of my favorite local peafowl breeders has 1 pair of green peafowl and they are Javas. He said he has had them for years and they haven't given him any eggs.

That would be disappointing. His greens sure are pretty I drool over them every time I visit.

I just have average peahens they lay 5 to 8 eggs in a clutch some will lay 3 clutches I was going through my books on chicks I hatch over the years and the most eggs I have got from a peahen is 23 eggs no super peahens here. I know at the end of the season it seems like you have gather 30 or 40 eggs per hen till you go back and count what was pick-up in that pen it alot less. My fertility here runs on a average around 75% some pens are higher some lower if I average the eggs I get a year to the hens I have it average around 12 to 15 eggs per hen a year. I have been raising peafowl close to 20 years and been raising some of the different color mutation for around 10 years and the most I have ever hatched out of a pen was 26 this is out of two hens. I talk to a friend of mine today last year he got 1200 eggs he has 100 breeder hens that is 12 eggs per hen he don't have any of the super hens. As to hatching eggs and raising peachicks go To Brads websight he know more about peafowl and raising than most I have learned alot fom him over the years.

About the same on clutch size 5 to 8, but i get 4 clutch a year...some even 5 .late April till August........so maybe more like 25 to 30 each here

How does everyone place their eggs in the incubator? On their sides, or upright? I just got a 1502 and I am not sure if I should place them upright in the trays, or on their sides?

I stand mine on the pointy end in the turkey/goose egg tray. Did just fine. I don't thing it really matters as long as they are turned regulary.
