Hatching Q on mailed eggs - Ayam Cemani

10pm I did my 15 min check and we had a huge zip, now he/ she is out but has some yolk sack? Still outside and attached dragging about. Should I go in & remove it now or wait til dry and move to brooder in am?
Possibly has some rocking & rolling on another egg
If it is truly the yolk then put the chick in a little bowl container so that it doesn't move too much and let it absorb the yolk. However, the pic, if that's what you are talking about, just looks like the umbilical goo and will dry or the chick will get it caught and pull it off! Boy they are dark babies!! Gorgeous! Congrats!

I just finished my hatch last night. (It was my second time attempting a hatch.)  I had 16 eggs go into lockdown and 13 of them hatched healthy babies. My average time between pip and zip is anywhere between 16-20 hours!! If by 20 hours there is absolutely no progress then and only then will I SLIGHTLY open the pip area to see if there is a critical reason why there has been no progress. Even with my malpositioned pipper I waited almost 20 hours before interfering. If there is a critical reason for the stalling (shrink wrapped, sever malposition) then I will commence to 'help'.  A few hours between pip and zip is nothing. Frustrating, yes, but most pippers in my experience and in my reading, take forever between the two stages.  I had to assist two chicks, one for it's sever malposition and one for being shrink wrapped. It was a hard decision to decide whether to assist or not. Good luck with yours!

Wow thats a great # to hatch, where they shipped eggs? I usually have a 90% hatch rate on my non shipped eggs (this is the first time I have tried shipped eggs). The glob seems to be dragging longer now and looks less yellow so I think you are correct & it's not yolk, thank goodness. I am.just so nervous and have gone through so much trying to get these eggs (legally) o don't want to mess something up. I don't think I will be sleeping tonight

LOL mine pipped on Tuesday and started hatching Wednesday-Thursday so Tues and Wednesday night I took cat naps...lol my 6 year old son kept saying, 'but Mom, you're going to be grumpy' lol. I think I did very well not being grumpy! My eggs were from my sister's chicks. Her and her man have been raising them for a few years now. I get the nervous. I was like a basket case and mine were free eggs-barnyard surprises lol. I can't imagine how I'd be with expensive "cost me a fortune" eggs. Then again I can't see me paying that much for chickens...lol I can't wait to see yours fluffed up! You better make sure you post pics...lol

LOL, I don't get grumpy more like a duh blonde moment all day ;)
I will for sure keep posting pics, I am a crazy chicken mom & take tons of pics of my birds. I am hoping to use these guys as educational birds for our farm tours (We get lots of kids; girl scouts , etc & we give free hatching eggs to classrooms for teaching) I really like the rare breeds and love black and white animals,so when I first started raising chickens ayam cemani was my holy grail of chickens!

By what I've read and the price of a young pair, they are other's holy grail too....lol I have to admit I was intrigued when I first read about them and researched them . They are pretty cool. I was looking at one that had been processed for eating and all I could think was I don't know if I could eat chicken that is black skinned....not to mention black boned....lol. I'm not a big meat eater, and I can't eat any meat off a bone, but boneless skinless chicken breast is the one meat I do a lot of (as long as it comes from a store....lol) I'd probably die if I had to live by my own hand...lol

2 have made it through the night & got moved to the brooder at 8am. The 4 remaining eggs i candled & put back in the incubator. 2 are doing nothing, 2 are peeping & moving. The one has internal pipped the other I can't see well (could not even make out the air sack section, just a small line).

Great News the 2 eggs from this am have both now externally pipped, the strange air sack one has a good hole clean through the membrane & shell (right) the one with the internal pip has now just cracked the outer shell (left) just above where unmarked that the beak was this am.

Yeah!!!!

How are things today??? Sounds like you are doing well at this...even with the lack of sleep.( I drew 2 hours last night and 5 the night before...still have only the one. I am going to candle soon and see if I can see anything.) Post your pics when they come out!

Well it was a super tough day with the 2 that started to hatch this am. The one that was piping great got into a bad position (which I could not see because of my incubator window set up)ended up seeing blood along the zip line. Was checking every 15 mins and thought it was resting (less than 1.5 hrs in) turns out his claws must have ruptured a blood vessel or the last of the yolk sucking up (cant figure out what else could have happened). On my egg autopsy found clotted blood all around the umbilical area and the one foot/claws & onto the back of the head. He did have the wing caught over the face and I'm assuming in rocking & rolling to get it unstuck he pushed to hard & at the wrong angle due to off position. This was the strange air cell chick.
