Hi, I'm new to the forum :frow
I went to the shop today (Morrisons) and I bought some quail eggs. I've always loved quail so it would be lovely if they hatched. I know you need fertile eggs for them to hatch but I've read about shop eggs hatching before so I'm going to give it a go anyway.
I've put the eggs in a box (about the size of a small shoebox) and put them on a hot water bottle.
Is there any chance they could hatch? :D

Hi, Welcome! I gotta say, probably not gonna get chicks with that setup, but we can tell you more with more details. Take a look at some of the DIY incubator builds on this site, they all have certain components: container, steady heat source, thermostat, fan, thermometer/hygrometer, turner (optional). You can build one on the cheap from parts, and they can work just as well as a prefab. You might want to check if supermarket quail eggs in your area are even fertilized (might say so on the package). If not, you can find many sources of fertile quail eggs online.

Hi and welcome!

It's very possible that the eggs are fertile. If you are buying supermarket eggs, you'll want to look for unrefrigerated eggs if possible and the freshest possible.

People on this forum sometimes struggle with incubation even with real incubators, so you aren't going to get a hatch with a water bottle. Successful incubation requires regulated heat, proper humidity, and regular turning.

In the US, you can get acceptable incubators for a reasonable (approximately $100) price. I see them used online for $30. Looks like you're in the UK, so there should be options there as well.

Have fun!
