Hatching store bought eggs~ Whole Foods vs. Trader Joes

Was at WF yesterday and bought 6 "fresh Marans hen eggs" the company is Pete and Gerry's. plus a dozen Duck eggs neither says fertile but the Marans say cage free and the ducks say free range. I put some under a broody and will put some in an incubator tomorrow. Has anyone tried either from WF's?

Chicks and bees, i dont know about the eggs but I just wanted to say I have a leghorn and she is very friendly, I adore her. They also "aren't good foragers" but she is one of my best and most curious. She's just beautiful too. I wasn't expecting much from a leghorn but I have been pleasantly surprised.

I think a refrigerated fertile egg remains viable until the embryo has started to develop. Once the embryo starts to grow it must remain near 95.5* - You cannot refrigerator the embryo or it dies.

Maybe I can resurrect this thread ! I'll be trying to incubate (my first time incubating, hopefully will be my first chicken ever) a dozen whole foods eggs. They sell out really quickly, and they ship some more in EVERY MORNING... Really fresh. I'll be making a thread on my eggs, soon! I'm sure the people on the farm realize what fertile eggs are, people hatch them all the time. Maybe the people that incubated them got a bad laying date, or their incubator was off. And of course, some people will get eggs fresher. Like I said, WF told me they get fertile eggs shipped in daily. I live in Michigan, right next to Detroit. Other people (California, though they have TJ) might get them a bit later ! Like here, TJ doesn't have fertile eggs. Only WF.

Yes you can ! I've heard of people hatching eggs a couple DAYS old that have been refrigerated. It's just the longer you do, the more your hatch rate goes down down down downn...

I was fascinated by the thought of WF or TJ fertile eggs hatching. So...I bought a dozen eggs at WF. (My TJ's doesn't carry fertile eggs. The TJ's guy thought I was CRAZY TOWN ! (He told me hatching fertile eggs from their store or any other is just an Urban Myth!) So my Broody Girl has been sitting on her clutch for about two weeks now. She's doing the hard work, I just invested 3 bucks to see what we get. We will both be astonished if we get some chicks! (She's never been with a rooster. haha!)
