Oh ItalyChickie,
Don't get me wrong I love the pictures of all the fuzzies but Cenere stole the show for me. She is absolutely adorable!
I wish I could get some of my bantam cochin eggs over to you, I would love to test them out on your new birthday present!
By the way, have a wonderful birthday week!
Marie
Oh there is no need to explain, I know exactly what you mean - Cenere always steals the show for me as well!! I absolutely adore that girl and her sweetest chickenality - as much as I love the fuzzies, nobody can compete with Cenere.

I do hope that sooner or later I get a daughter from her that is just as sweet and funny and companionable.
Thank you for the birthday wishes! I had a great long weekend - 3.5 days with half day on my birthday, plus a holiday on Friday - almost feels like a mini vacation! And of course the incubator present made it perfect!
I really really wish I could test those bantam Cochin eggs for you as well! Too bad we are so far from each other that shipping is out of the question...
Now the wheels are turning. Hubby and I talked about the future of our homestead and where we want to take things. That included adding other animals (in addition to my horse, once things are set up or if his pasture mate goes down hill. He shares his pasture with a 30+ year old Arab/quarter horse that has very few teeth left and needs to be supplemented heavily to maintain weight. We won't move my Valentine until after the other horse's time, since we will not move the other horse in his condition and would never leave him without a "herd"). Anyhow, getting long winded here. I think FF will help a ton to stretch out our dollar not to mention the benefits they say come from it. Excited to see where all of this takes us.
Now. Anyone got a broody I can borrow? I am… kinda ready to wean my chicks and I am only 3 days into it!!! I am much more lax about this group, but they are doing so well! I can not wait to get them outside, though!
Me, me, I have a bunch of broodies you can borrow! Would you like a red one, a white or a set of two or three?
The broody twins are back to laying (first eggs today), but I am sure if I were to put them with a dozen eggs, they will be back in broody mode in no time! Their other sister has been on the nest for two days now, and I have a Bonnie puffer fish, as well as a young brahma who keep trying to call the chicks to them... Wish I really could let you borrow one, that is far too many broodies for me to deal with!
Your plans sound wonderful! What other animals do you plan to add? I kinda see that in our future too, though maybe in a couple of years...
IC, I must agree with 16paws!!
Oh, I do too! And Cenere says thanks.
I am sure ItalyChickie has a few, twins or triplets? Lol
I would let you borrow Penny but she is busy at the moment....Lol I am actually thinking of slipping a couple silkie chicks in with her tonight. They have some at the feed store right now and I DO have to go there for something else
Darn chicken math
Ooh silkie chicks cuuuuute!
And yes, triplets.. It's a set in which someone is always broody, basically... Can be one, two, or three. How in the world my absolutely zero broodieness leghorn can be a mom to hose three, I have no idea!
Good morning Team Broody
IC, happy birthday. What a perfect birthday gift!
I confess to having a bit of a soft spot where Cochins are concerned, especially the bantams; probably explains why I have three
X 3 that your bubbies are beautiful but Cenere stole the show for me also; she is gorgeous!!
MM, good to read that your bubbies are doing well.
At the moment I would be more than happy to box up Cilla and send her to you!! lol.
Blondie is 9.5 weeks old and Cilla still thinks she has to protect her. This is not so bad when they are all out free ranging but poor ole Tina and Lulu have to watch their back when they are in the run. Cilla is not being over aggressive and just chases them off but it must be tiring for her and them ... get over it Cilla! lol
Lulu is settling in very well and she has the sweetest personality; follows Tina around everywhere
I have started the FF process and will set up Jar 2 today. The feeding side of the process starts on Tuesday morning so I will let you know how it goes and what they think of it.
It was mentioned that they do not tend to spread the FF around as much as dry feed (looking for the bits they like) which I am hoping deters the local Dove population a little also.
I am dreading tomorrow .. back to work
Hubby reckons that once I get there, having had a nice relaxing break, I will have a fresh perspective and it will not be as bad as I think ... I am not convinced!
Thanks for the birthday wishes Teila! No worries, I agree with all of you on Cenere stealing the show! It's even more true in person when she follows me around and strikes poses and pecks me gently to see if I'm hiding any treats,
I am going to get me more Cochins, bantam or otherwise, soon!!!
Glad to hear Lulu is settling in well! Tina and her are so sweet together!
I think Cilla takes the record for longest and most protective mom!

Cenere was back to the big flock and laying at 5 week mark last year... My bantam cross lasted longer, about 8 weeks, and gave up when her tiny son tried mounting her.. (I swear that roo was the fastest maturing ever, he crowed at 4 weeks. )
I have also started the FF process this morning! Hope you are right about the dove population, we have far too many here! (One is stealing feathers and straw as we type and building a nest on our garage...)
Good morning everyone! Beautiful day here at ssh! I slept in a bit and am just sitting down to make my grocery list. All the windows are open and I suddenly heard "cluck cluck cluck". My husband let the chickies out for me! Aww! He does like them! Have I shown you all how I deal with willie thes days?
A little fencing practice! My son's nerf sword is soft, and if i am persistent he backs down. Eventually. I try to mimic another rooster.
Have a quick question for those of you with blue birds. Elsa and Anna are different colors. Will they be different when they grow up?
edited to correct my horrendous typos from posting on my phone...
MM love your method of dealing with Willie!!

glad it's effective, too!
And totally envious of having someone else let out the chickies! Never going to happen over here... (I am a morning person... Hubby, not so much. )
Sorry I can't help on blue chickens! My one and only blue was already grown when I got her.. Would also love to know the answer, as my blue fuzzy butt seems to be much lighter than Cenere..
Well, I better go spend some more quality time with the chickies before it starts getting dark. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
