Hi! New here! We are in north central Texas and are expecting a shipment of 15 hatchlings (8 Buff Orpington/7 Austroplorp) from MPC later this month. I've got our brooder ready and the coop is built and secure! Yay. Been reading up about pasty butt, and some common diseases to look for. Any additional advice? Thanks in advance!

! Great to have you with us! First chickens are an exciting time and it looks like you have done your homework and prep to give your chicks a great start! Make sure you dunk their beaks when you unpack them so they know right away where to find their water. Some folks also put electrolyte powder in the waterer for awhile to give them a boost. My only advice is, if you haven't already, to read the articles in the Learning Center here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
And if you'd like to chat with fellow Lone Star chicken folks, locate the TX thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you
Best wishes, enjoy your baby chicks and the fresh eggs you'll be getting in a few months!

Welcome!

How exciting! Best wishes to you and the little ones when they arrived.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
