Hating Winters

Wow - crazy weather! It's been in the 20-30s here. I am finding my hands are getting more sensitive to the cold as I get older. :hmm
One year, there was some heat wave down south of me and on CHRISTMAS DAY was t-shirt and shorts weather. Not kidding.

Aww :hugs alpaca wool gloves! Alpaca wool is soooo soft and warm. But expensive. Once I treated myself to two skeins of wool and it was $25. I crocheted a nice beanie. Will not be buying that again!

Thank you for a reasonable perspective. I know, it's not even actually here yet. Sigh. My boots were just SO muddy yet cold today and it's been snowing on/off for days (with no end in sight, of course!). But you're right... no bugs and frozen poo are real pluses! Takes me a while to get into a Winter groove.
Believe me. I sit on my chair in the basement getting my thick coats and boots on and all the time saying "I don't want to go out", but I do because my critters need me to and I choose to keep them. Summer is definitely easier, but if I get frustrated already what am I gonna do until April here. That's why I wait until February and March to get frustrated. For me here in Wisconsin winter is about 6 months. Thankfully I prefer cold to heat, but I completely understand. :)

I don't like cold weather either. At least the bigger laying chickens are in an insulated coop and have a covered run so there isn't lots of mud and I won't have to shovel snow. The Bantam coop only has a small attached covered run and the bigger run doesn't have a solid roof just chicken wire to keep flying predators out. I am sure when it snows a lot I will have to shovel parts of that run. UGH! I don't like winter at all honestly and when we get to the age to retire I plan to move somewhere with no snow!

But, isn't that why they make air-conditioner's for? :lau
I can't air condition the outside. I barely can go out during the summer because I don't handle heat well. Cold I can do. That's why I'm in Wisconsin. Give me -20 with -40 wind chills that will peel your skin off to 90 degrees any day. That's my cut off for heat. :) And actually anything over 70 is too hot.

For your hands, I found these gloves. They are more waterproof than others and have a thermal lining. My hands have still gotten cold when I'm out there too long and sometimes I have to take them off so that I can do a bit more, but they are keeping my hands dry and warm.

Also, when it is really cold, I wear this ski jumpsuit like outfit my dad gave me (not sure why as I was an adult - but it came in handy when taking the kids out to play in the snow). Now, I use it to check on my flock. :D I could invest in carharts, but already have this. Ha.
Also, A nice pair of winter muck boots come in handy too!
I agree that the mud is not fun, but once winter thoroughly sets in you won't have to worry about it - just snow and ice, frozen eggs, and frozen water... until spring.

I'm the opposite, and can't handle the cold well. That's why I don't live in Minnesota anymore.
