Have a real dark egg anyone have suggestions?

Why?

It's out but still not all the way. It's peeping though. Or was a minute ago anyway. It needs a serious bath when it detaches because its gooey and has stuff stuck everywhere to it.
Not you. The off topic posts that have suddenly appeared.

Birds have one set of lungs plus the air sacs that store and pump the air through the (stationary) lungs. Because air only flows in one direction through the lungs the air sac are needed so that birds can take in oxygen while they are exhaling. It is not "two" sets of lungs.

It is quite fascinating. The more I learn the more fascinating it is. Too bad knowledge wasn't this fun in school.

The most interesting thing thus far that has intrigued me is that the roo plays no part in determining the sex of the chick. That one surprised me.

That does NOT look good at all. Take a look at this, about halfway down the page: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mushy-chick-disease-yolk-sack-infection-omphalitis That explains why it was not hatching out right.

An unhealed navel can heal, if conditions do not promote further infection. I'd use Neosporin/bacitracin, vitamins/electrolytes, get the baby some drinking water soon after three days open. I've had them survive with no long term effects from this defect. No bare wire underneath, no cloth to stick. Rubber shelf liner might be the best, just be sure it's sanitized to start off.

I had one that's navel took a few days to heal up. Worried me, but it did heal fine.

Also, I have never heard any other recommendation of only turning eggs twice. Always heard odd number so the same side is not up overnight, which is usually the longest time between turnings.

Best of luck mswwendeu! Strong baby you have there and lots of folks rooting for it!!

I'd definitely try, but that is quite large and open. I'd use a antibiotic on it for sure. Poor guy. I hope he defies the odds and makes it.
