Oh that's great news! In my head I've been calling him Gilligan, which fits a him or a her, only because if there was a scrape to get into Gilligan found it. But he always remained cheerful and optimistic and kept on going, no matter what!

So let's see, there must be a million names out there for him. Timex, as in "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'?" Nah, kinda corney. Trouble? Nah, too obvious. Treasure? Digging him out of there was like digging for treasure. Nah, too silly. Hmmm, guess you might have to live with him awhile and see what part of his personality pops out at you!

Edited to add: Just as I posted his picture came up! What a little doll!

Funny when I was at the kitchen sink trying to wet the inner membrane I was saying the same exact thing. Come on little buddy. I think you nailed it. It's perfect. I even called him that a minute ago and he looked up at me. I think it's a winner.
I truly hope he keeps his black feet/spotted bill but one of the other ladies says they will change to orange. :(

Ya and he's up and moving around when I got home from work. So I gave him the water dish and some food. If he's doing good by tomorrow after work I will try moving him in with the other ducklings. He needs a special name.
He sure does!

I am honored! I've just named my first duck and I don't even have any ducks! But then he's kinda like Scout, my chick who got frostbitten feet. He never gave up, I never gave up, and he ended up belonging to everybody! Thanks! Okay, Gilligan - keep going!

edited to add: Just in case you need something to do, the link to Scout's story is in my signature at the bottom. I'm sure you have nothing but time with Gilligan and the other hatchlings!

I call mine "little buddies" all the time. Gilligan is an awesome name. Good job Blooie!

My Opie has kept her striped legs and feet, and "goatee" - two little black lines on each side of her nail. And all mine that had spots one their feet and bills have stayed. The yellow has faded to kinda tan, but the black is still black. Almost 6 weeks, so I don't think they are gonna change very much more.

Thank you for the duckling update and pictures!

BTW How are the goslings doing?
The goslings are great their getting big. Thinking if I can get out of work on time tomorrow (fat chance lol) if its warm enough I want to put the little play-yard thing up and let them root around in the grass outside I bet they'd love it.

For my first time incubating I think this was a great experience even if it was a bit scary every now and than.

Lets see I set on lockdown
Set 6 lavender orphingtons hatched 4
Set 2 spangled sussex hatched 1
Set 4 goose eggs, hatched 4
Set 5 Ancona Duck eggs, hatched 3
I still have the other two ancona duck eggs in the brinsea with no change. I was going to candle them last night if Gilligan hatched on his own but, we all know how that turned out. lol
So I will candle them in a little bit.
