Hi all, I used to visit this forum a lot, but have been away for a long time. Lots has happened both in our flock and personal lives. The other half was made redundant but thankfully has a new job now. We are renovating the house. Our daughter is five now and I am about to start training as a registered childminder. In our flock, our much loved Brahma cockerel Lovejoy died leaving a big gap in our hearts and Captain Jack the Barnavelder is now the gentle boss. We also lost four ducks to predators. Thankfully after a lot of work the new fence is up and there have been no more losses. Our funny little sultan / arucana cross has started laying just as we decided she was sterile (She started at over a year old!). We have been happy to welcome pair of Cayugas and a pair of minature appleyards to the family and they are happily sharing the new pond with our remaining call ducks. The other half built a brilliant coop that is more robust than the shed and probably weighs more too! Sadly the hens still like sleeping in the nest boxes rather than on their perches! We also have a beagle now and as well as being great with poultry he does his bit looking after them by peeing along the fence, barking at nocturnal sounds and rushing out to have a good look around the garden at night . No sign of foxes around here with him about. So it has been really hectic here. Love to you all. Xx
