I overestimated how much my chicks would eat and bought a huge 40lb bag of grower feed, thinking they would be done with it by the time they started laying. Well, they finally just now are finishing off the huge bag of chick feed, so I'm ready to open the grower, but they are 3 1/2 months old. I'm guessing they will begin laying within the next month, and 40lbs will last us at least 2 months, maybe longer. Can I just feed it to them anyway? Even if they are laying? I have jars and jars of baked, pulverized egg shells that I can add to the mix or feed free choice for calcium. It would make things a lot easier if I can just feed them the grower! TIA!

I always finish the grower even if they have started to lay. They will need those eggs shells for supplementing their calcium.
