OK so I am hatching a batch of socks and eggs. This hatch seems different than any hatch I’ve had before as a bunch of shell got knocked off and the membrane was showing and it looked pretty solid and dry. I ended up opening the incubator with 10 other eggs already picked to look at this egg. Humidity has stayed up but I am very afraid that I have caused shrink wrapping to the rest of the eggs. Has anyone ever opened the incubator with this amount of pipping and everything turned out all right? (The duckling in the egg is alive)

No, they will not be shrinkwrapped from that. Trust me. They're just fine. Opening the incubator for a few minutes a handful of times during lockdown will not hurt anything. I've hatched over 300 eggs and not once from opening the incubator at lockdown have I caused shrinkwrapping.

It's ok, haha! I know it's scary when you're at the end and don't want to mess up, but you didn't. They'll be fine.
People think shrinkwrapping happens really fast, it doesn't. It only happens when the eggs have not had high enough humidity for over an hour. And if you didn't have the incubator open for over an hour, you're fine.

Yes! Because I read and read about incubating until I did it the first time. And we’ve had pretty successful hatches and have never lost a bird during the actual hatching process until recently. Shrink wrapping of course is always a fear because I read about it but had not experienced it – until my son had some Easter Eggers in and my older daughter an older adopted son came to look through the window and one of them in advertently disconnected the power. I came in over an hour later and saw that it had been off. And we ended up losing a few because of it. So sad! That was the hatch prior to this one so I guess I am gun shy!

I’m curious…first time hatching scovy eggs. I had incubator opened yesterday to briefly candle as 4 out of 7 had externally pipped and then nothing for close to 24 hrs. They seemed to be okay. However, the lid did not get put on tight😔. They went from approx 11pm- 5:30am with stable temp, but humidity at 44-49%. There is movement in a few eggs and I do hear peeping, just not sure from which eggs (haven’t opened the lid again though). Thoughts on what issues are likely to occur due to this?

Did the 24 hour pipper eventually hatch? I have one in that very situation
