Have question about raising chicks

welcome-byc.gif

1. When I first get my chicks I want to keep them in the house will they be noisey?
2. Will I have to clean the box every day?
3. At what point can I put them outside? (please don't say when they get feathers).
4. At what point do I go from chick food to regular food?
5. When I first get them will it be ok to leave the light on them all day and night to keep them warm?
6. How big of a box should I keep them in until I move them outside to there pen?

1. With only six chicks, they shouldn't be that noisy (if you have a rooster when they start crowing they dont do it very much so its not bad)

2. Nope

3. 6-8 weeks

4. 6-10 weeks, (or whenever you finish the last bag of chick starter)

5. Yes, unless they are showing signs of being to hot, then i would raise the light higher, or raise it lower if they are showing signs of being cold.

6. uum, well i kept about 20 chicks in a horse trough for about 7-8 weeks (about 6 foot long 2 foot wide)
When they get older they start flying a little and they love to run around, if you had the room for a big brooder then for the first couple days block off part of it until they are a little bigger. Maybe like a 4x2 foot brooser would be fine

Good Luck!
